Where Is Jack Reagan on ‘Boston Blue’? Everything the Creators Said and Whether He’ll Return
Find out where the 'Blue Bloods' character Jack Reagan has been and whether he will return
Since Blue Bloods ended in 2024, viewers haven’t had the opportunity to see the entire Reagan family together again. That’s partly by design: Boston Blue shifts the action to a new city, meaning only a few familiar faces have surfaced so far. The series follows Danny Reagan’s youngest son, Sean, as he begins his career as a police officer, while Danny navigates a fresh start—both professionally and personally.
Still, one question has lingered for longtime Blue Bloods fans: where is Danny’s oldest son, Jack Reagan? Here’s what we know about where the character has been—and whether he could eventually appear on Boston Blue.
Who is Jack Reagan?
Blue Bloods fans will remember Jack Reagan as the eldest son of Danny (Donnie Wahlberg) and Linda Reagan (Amy Carlson). Played by Tony Terraciano, Jack grew up on screen alongside his younger brother, Sean (Andrew Terraciano). The bond between the characters felt especially natural, thanks to the fact that the actors are brothers in real life.
On Boston Blue, Sean Reagan is now played by Mika Amonsen, reflecting the character at a later stage of life than where Blue Bloods left off. Which, of course, raises the next obvious question: what happened to Jack?
Where is Jack Reagan?

Since Boston Blue began, fans of both shows have been wondering whether they would see other Reagan family members, including Jack. It was revealed in an episode that Jack is in Africa participating in Doctors Without Borders and the creators of the new series, Brandon Margolis and Brandon Sonnier, addressed that in a recent interview.
“We really try to keep track of where the rest of the family is within the Blue Bloods universe, because we are an expansion of that world,” Sonnier shared. “It’s a big deal that Jack is overseas and that he’s in medical school. We never want to lose sight of the fact that Danny has two sons. Part of placing Jack so far away was logistical — it gives Danny the space to fully focus on Sean right now, because there’s not a lot he can do for Jack. Jack’s doing fine. He’s thriving. This family has a duty to serve, a calling to service, and this felt like a way for Jack to follow that calling—while being far enough away, for now, to serve the story we’re telling.”
Jack’s decision to become a doctor also reflects a deeper family legacy. His mother, Linda Reagan—an ER nurse—was killed off between Seasons 7 and 8, making Jack’s career choice a meaningful full-circle moment for longtime viewers. And while Jack followed in his mother’s footsteps in medicine, Sean has taken after his father by becoming a police officer, continuing the Reagan family tradition in a different way.
Will Jack Reagan return?
So while Jack isn’t currently in the country, will he return in the future? Many fans have wondered whether Danny might eventually reunite with both of his sons, but according to the show’s creators, that doesn’t appear to be in the cards.
“We can say there will be more Reagans appearing in the back half of the season,” Margolis noted. “It won’t be Jack. We love the idea, and we’re open to it if it makes sense storytelling-wise. We’re never closing the door on any of the Reagans or any possibility of bringing pieces from the larger universe into our bubble in Boston.”
Be sure to tune into the second part of Boston Blue season 1 when it returns to CBS on Friday, February 27th at 10PM and find out more about the Reagan’s.
