‘Boston Blue’ Is Set To Return For A Second Season: ‘Brooklyn and Beantown Ride Again!’

It’s official: Donnie Wahlberg and Sonequa Martin-Green are heading back to Beantown! That’s right: Boston Blue is coming back for a second season! The series received an early renewal only six episodes into the first season as ratings are through the roof and fans are loving this new version of Danny Reagan.
The early release was announced by CBS on December 3, with CBS Entertainment President Amy Reisenbach sharing the good news.
“Two new shows on Friday night have become instant hits with audiences quickly embracing Boston Blue and Sheriff Country across broadcast and streaming,” Reisenbach shared in a statement on Wednesday. “These early renewals reflect the power of character-driven storytelling, compelling narratives and the exceptional talent on both sides of the camera that make these series truly stand out.”

Why did ‘Boston Blue’ get an early renewal?
It’s no surprise that Boston Blue has been a success for CBS, considering it was spawned from the massively successful hit series Blue Bloods. Although Wahlberg is the only star from the original cast, the new family of cops and lawyers has warmed the hearts of devoted fans.
Boston Blue has drawn in millions of fans so far, according to Nielsen ratings. The press release states that the crime drama “averaged 8 million viewers in Nielsen live plus 7-day multiplatform ratings, with streaming alone up +87% from Blue Bloods last fall and is consistently a time period winner at 10:00 PM Fridays.”
So, not only is Boston Blue performing for the network but it’s performing better than Blue Bloods did in its final season in 2024.
When will ‘Boston Blue’ season 2 air?
Although there is no official release date for season 2 yet, you can expect to see your favorite detectives back on your screen in the 2026 to 2027 CBS lineup.
For now, you can continue to enjoy season 1 as it continues to air, with three more episodes set to release before the holidays!
What the cast has said about the renewal
It’s only been one day since it was announced that Boston Blue will be returning for a second season but Donnie Wahlberg is as excited as anyone to continue portraying Danny Reagan.
Wahlberg posted the news to his story with the caption, “Brooklyn and Beantown ride again. So thankful to all of our cast, crew and viewers!” CBS also shared their excitement writing in a story post, “We’re going back to Boston!”
The news was also announced via an Instagram post from CBS and Wahlberg with the caption, “It’s official: the dream team is here to stay! Boston Blue is returning for season 2.”
