With the film and television industry being as cut-throat as it is, many rising actors and actresses have learned that the only person who can truly advocate for you is yourself—and Brittany Allen’s Emmy campaign is proof of that. The 40-year-old actress gave a stunning performance in Season 2 of The Pitt, and when she learned that HBO wouldn’t be submitting her for Emmy nomination consideration, she took matters into her own hands and submitted herself—and got exactly what she wanted. Now, Brittany is nominated for Outstanding Guest Actress in a Drama Series for her work in The Pitt. Here, a look back at her role, her journey toward earning that nomination and what she’s said about the accomplishment.

Brittany Allen’s Emmy campaign came after a gut-wrenching performance
In The Pitt Season 2, Allen was introduced as Roxie Hamler, a terminally ill cancer patient. Roxie’s visit to the emergency room was prompted by a broken leg and seizures, but as her pain and condition progressed, she made the impossible decision to remain in the hospital where she ultimately passed away, in an effort to spare her husband and children from the burden of seeing her condition worsen on hospice at home.
When Brittany learned that HBO did not submit her performance for Emmy consideration, she went forward with the process of submitting herself, and earlier this week, she learned that her efforts had paid off.
“When I saw that I wasn’t being submitted by HBO, there wasn’t really a question of whether or not I would try to submit myself,” Allen explained to CNN. “If you had told me at any point in the last 20 years that I would be nominated for an Emmy for my work on an HBO show, I would be just beyond excited and proud to have made it someplace that I was dreaming about getting for a long time.”
Casey Bloys, HBO and Max Content Chair and CEO, shared his thoughts on Brittany’s nomination with The Hollywood Reporter, saying, “The Pitt has hundreds of performers and we simply, just strategically, can’t submit everybody. It’s just the reality. But we encourage people to self-submit and I love that she got nominated.”
Jeff Kober is another actor who appeared on The Pitt who self-submitted in the hopes of earning an Emmy nomination, and he, too, made the cut. He appeared in Season 2 as a close friend of Dr. Robby, and his stellar performance ultimately earned him a nomination for Outstanding Guest Actor in a Drama Series, which he called a “joy and an honor” in a post shared to Instagram.

The bottom line? It never hurts to put yourself out there and there’s nothing wrong with acknowledging your own skill. You never know—a little bit of confidence might just earn you an award someday!
