Dutton Ranch Season 1 Episode 6 ended with a bang—literally. Spoilers follow…

In a shocking shooting scene, Chet (Hart Denton) was killed and it’s definitely going to have an impact on the show from now on. Also going to have an impact? Beulah Jackson (Annette Bening) asking Beth Dutton (Kelly Reilly) about Jamie Dutton’s (Wes Bentley) death. Below, we break down exactly what happened in the episode that led to these shocking turns of events and reveal how it could impact the rest of Dutton Ranch Season 1.

‘Dutton Ranch’ Episode 6 recap

Dutton Ranch Episode 6 mainly centered around Beth and Rip Wheeler (Cole Hauser) adjusting to their new roles at the 10-Petal Ranch, which is owned by Beulah. Now, some people think that Beth and Rip are only working for the ranch to try and see how they can destroy it from the inside, but we’ll talk more about that below.

During their time there, Rip finds himself at odds with Chet and eventually fires him in Episode 5. Determined to get revenge, Chet teams up with Beulah’s son Rob-Will (Jai Courtney), who recently killed someone.

Then, in Episode 6, we see Chet shoot Beulah’s other son, Joaquin Jackson-Reyes (Juan Pablo Raba), in the hand before eventually getting shot and killed himself by the ranch’s security team.

And if that wasn’t enough, following the death, Beulah tells Beth that Rob-Will’s father “died in an awful flood” before Rob-Will was born. She also says that Joaquin was “dropped in my lap” by a ranch hand who “got on the wrong side of the law.” Does that mean that they aren’t real Jacksons? We need to know right now.

Also during that conversation, Beulah takes the time to question Beth about her Montana past. She asks about Carter (Finn Little), Beth’s family, and then begins to question what happened with Beth’s adopted brother, Jamie. For those who don’t know, Beth killed Jamie in the Yellowstone series finale, ending their years-long feud. His death remains a hot topic of conversation in the Yellowstone universe, and based on this conversation, it seems like Beulah might be catching on to the fact that Beth and Rip had something to do with his untimely and gruesome passing.

How ‘Dutton Ranch’ Episode 6 will impact the rest of Season 1

Since Chet was shot and killed, there’s a chance that his death will serve as a reminder to Beth and Rip that Beulah is far more deadly than she seems. Our theory is that Beth and Rip will use this murder—and the other one—to blackmail Beulah into either keeping what happened to Jamie a secret or to trick her into giving them the ranch.

Another theory is that Beth and Rip will use their son Carter’s relationship with Beulah’s granddaughter Oreana (Natalie Alyn Lind) to either steal the ranch from Beulah or to learn what Beulah is hiding and blackmail her that way.

Either way, we know a war is coming to Rio Paloma, Texas, and if there’s one thing we know about Beth and Rip, it’s that they love a good fight.
