  • Star Kelly Reilly says she wishes there was a 'Marshals' crossover.

Ever since the highly anticipated Yellowstone spinoff Dutton Ranch premiered earlier this month, fans have been wondering if it’s going to be renewed for a second season. They’ve also been curious whether Taylor Sheridan will be more involved than he was during Season 1. Well, after weeks of waiting, it seems like we might have some insight from the cast and crew about Dutton Ranch Season 2. Read on to discover what they had to say.

What is ‘Dutton Ranch?’

Dutton Ranch is a brand new show within the Yellowstone universe. It follows Beth Dutton (Kelly Reilly) and Rip Wheeler (Cole Hauser) after they move from Montana to Texas.

“The last season of Yellowstone was such an emotional thing,” Reilly told People magazine earlier this year. “We finished filming in, I think, September 2024, and then we started up again [for Dutton Ranch] in June or July and were talking about it all the time. So it didn’t really feel like a big break.… The train was going, and we had to be on it.”

The show itself is filled with drama, suspense, romance and, of course, ranching. It’s based on the characters created by Sheridan in the prequel show Yellowstone, but according to Finn Little—who plays Carter, Beth and Rip’s adoptive son in the show—the writer, director and actor wasn’t as involved with Dutton Ranch.

“My understanding is he’s just an executive producer,” Little told Woman’s World earlier this year. “No writing on this one.”

Is there going to be a ‘Dutton Ranch’ Season 2?

As of publication, there is no official confirmation if there will be a Season 2 of Dutton Ranch. There’s also no word on how involved Sheridan will be.

On the flip side, there is news on whether showrunner Chad Feehan will return. Three weeks before the Dutton Ranch premiere, it was revealed that Feehan, who also worked on Sheridan’s 2023 mini-series Lawmen: Bass Reeves, would be leaving the show. According to the show’s producer and director Christina Alexandra Voros, there were a lot of “dynamics behind his departure.”

She also told ScreenRant that the departure had not “come out into the world yet,” so a season without Feehan was “beyond” her knowledge on the subject.

Something that’s not beyond her knowledge? A crossover between Dutton Ranch and The Madison, which she also directed.

“They’ve been a wonderful balance in my life. The more deeply nuanced emotional grappling of The Madison and the more aggressive, muscular drama of Dutton Ranch,” she told Woman’s World earlier this year. “I would love to see Stacy Clyburn [Michelle Pfeiffer] and Beth Dutton [Kelly Reilly] get along, and I would love to see them having a whiskey together at the same bar.”

Sadly though, she did say that “those two stories exist in their own worlds that are different sides of a similar point,” meaning that a crossover in Season 2 or beyond most likely won’t happen.

Also not happening yet? A crossover with the other Yellowstone spinoff, Marshals, which follows Beth’s brother Kayce (Luke Grimes).

“I’m so proud of Luke, and we love him so much, and I miss him,” Reilly told People. “I wish we had a crossover. Maybe we will in the future.”
