Kelly Reilly and Cole Hauser open up about the ‘Dutton Ranch’ premiere
Dutton Ranch is one of the most anticipated Yellowstone spinoffs, picking up after the flagship series concluded in 2024. The series follows Beth Dutton (Kelly Reilly) and Rip Wheeler (Cole Hauser) as they relocate from Montana to Texas to establish a new cattle operation. While the project has been in development at Paramount for some time, details have only recently begun to emerge.
“The last season of Yellowstone was such an emotional thing,” Reilly told People. “We finished filming in, I think, September 2024, and then we started up again [for Dutton Ranch] in June or July and were talking about it all the time. So it didn’t really feel like a big break.… The train was going, and we had to be on it.”
In the interview, Reilly and Hauser didn’t share details as to why it was delayed, but they did open up about what viewers can expect from the premiere next week.

“It’s like going to the moon for these characters,” Hauser said. “They don’t know the land or the people or the environment.”
Reilly added to that, saying, “Beth and Rip were always such warriors, and they’re hoping that they may not have to be warriors. They’re always going to protect each other. They were protecting a place and a dream of John Dutton’s [Kevin Costner] for five seasons. Now that cycle, that burden is over. It’s dead. And so, who are they together now?”
Kelly Reilly and Cole Hauser spill on set secrets
One of the most anticipated aspects of Dutton Ranch is the new characters, specifically whoever Annette Bening and Ed Harris will be playing.
“We needed some heavyweights alongside us to tell a new story,” Reilly said of their co-stars. “We’re deeply flattered that they wanted to come on to a show with us.”
Added Hauser “The opportunity and honor to work with Ed was a dream come true. He’s just as good of a person as he is an actor. And Annette is wild and fun and smart.”

Along with Bening and Harris, the show also stars Finn Little, Reilly and Hauser’s onscreen adopted son.
“He’s just grown with us, and we love him,” Reilly said of Little.
“We’ve been a part of his most formidable years as a young man,” Hauser added. “And so, to see him grow not only off the screen, but on the screen as an actor, he has so much talent and it’s just oozing out of him.”
Kelly Reilly and Cole Hauser talk about Taylor Sheridan
Another key member of the crew is Sheridan, who is responsible for the creation of Beth and Rip,
“The thing that Taylor does as a writer is that he gives you this freedom, whether you know it or not, to actually really be creative and try new things,” Hauser said. “The Beth-Rip relationship, it’s so much different than any other relationship I’ve ever had on camera. It’s hot, it’s cold, it’s beautiful, it’s angry, it’s passionate.”

Reilly added to that, sharing, “Taylor Sheridan is one of the best writers in this country right now, and we are his characters. He’s always in our minds as we’re making this, and they are big boots to fill. It’s because of him that we’re here.”
Dutton Ranch premieres on Paramount on Friday, May 14.
