Another Dutton Ranch trailer was just released, and while we still don’t know why Beth Dutton (Kelly Reilly) and Rip Wheeler (Cole Hauser) moved to Texas, we do finally have some insight into who Annette Bening will be playing. We also finally know how the actress’ character will impact the storyline overall. For more on this, keep reading.

What to know about the new ‘Dutton Ranch’ trailer

Ever since Yellowstone wrapped up production in 2024, fans were hoping that Taylor Sheridan and his team would release a spinoff series centered around the show’s best couple, Beth and Rip. For a while there were rumors that it was happening, but the show’s name, plot and release date weren’t confirmed by anyone until this year.

Dutton Ranch has the best parts of what I loved about Yellowstone,” director Greg Yaitanes told Collider earlier this year “That cast is just so terrific. I had time. It’s artful. It’s just a different kind of show. It’s much more of a drama and a soap… Dutton Ranch really felt like they were making Yellowstone Season 6. Marshals is much more genre and guns-forward and those kinds of cool things.”

Dutton Ranch is expected to follow Beth and Rip after they leave Montana and start up their own ranch in Texas. This was confirmed by the new trailer, in which Rip even tells Beth “I miss waking up to the mountains.” In the trailer, Beth also asks Rip if Texas is going to work for them, to which he replies, “We’ll make it work.”

Doing that may be hard, though, especially since Bening’s character Beulah Jackson, a powerful rancher that Ed Harris’ Everett describes as “Miss Rio Paloma herself… She’s an acquired taste.”

Whether the audience will feel that way has yet to be determined, but Bening’s character did say in the trailer, “Rip and Beth have secrets. And people with secrets can be useful—corruptible even.” And one thing’s for sure, if she causes trouble for fan-favorite couple Beth and Rip, she might just become one of the most hated characters in Sheridan’s Yellowstone universe.

“I can’t wait for the audiences to see the foursome of Ed, Annette, Kelly, and myself. There’s a lot going on,” Hauser told TV Insider earlier this month. “My mother passed away a couple of years ago. Annette Bening was her favorite actress. If my mom is looking down, she’s doing a jig up in Heaven.”

“It’s a new world, a new show, a new beginning,” the actor continued. “You have to understand this is a show about not just action, it’s about people and the place and how they can come from the bottom and rise. It’s not Yellowstone. They don’t own a huge cattle ranch and are making millions of dollars a year. It’s about the rise of Beth and Rip and [their son] Carter [Finn Little]. For Rip, it’s like putting him on the moon. The cowboy culture is different. He’s got to evolve. We all had to adapt and find a way to get along in this new world.”

‘Dutton Ranch’ release date

Dutton Ranch releases on Friday, May 15. There will be nine episodes total, and as of publication there is no news on if there will be a second season or a crossover with Marshals—the other Yellowstone spinoff centered around Kayce Dutton (Luke Grimes).

“I feel like Kayce should go to Dutton Ranch. That feels like something that I would lose my sh** over as a fan. That would be pretty cool,” Yaitanes told Collider. “I just don’t know, in the world of what Marshals is, if Beth coming in would fit into that quite as well. Kayce would just naturally fold into Dutton Ranch because there’s a tonal similarity to the original Yellowstone. A lot of the people involved with Dutton Ranch really felt like they were making Yellowstone Season 6. Marshals is much more genre and guns-forward and those kinds of cool things.”

Along with Yaitanes, Christina Alexandra Voros will direct and executive produce several Season 1 episodes. She is best known for her work on The Madison.
