After months of anticipation, Dancing with the Stars Season 34 officially premiered, and trust us when we say, it was just as shocking and drama-filled as we had hoped. From missing judges to jaw-dropping scores, it truly was a must-watch episode. Below, we recap everything that happened, including the current scores and when the next episode is expected to premiere on ABC.

‘Dancing with the Stars’ season 34 premiere recap

Dancing with the Stars season 34 premiered on Tuesday, September 16, and featured 13 new couples competing to win the coveted Len Goodman Mirror Ball Trophy. Derek Hough and Bruno Tonioli served as the evening’s judges, ready to critique every step, spin and stumble. Carrie Ann Inaba was also supposed to serve as a judge but announced on social media earlier that day that she wouldn’t be there due to a medical issue.

“I wanted to share that I will not be at the show tonight as I am feeling quite under the weather. I’m resting up and can’t wait to be back next week in good health,” she wrote on Instagram. “In the meantime, I wish all the contestants the very best of luck. I’ll be cheering you on from home. Have a great show, everyone!”

Inaba’s absence was touched on at the beginning of the episode, and they didn’t replace her 10 judging points. Instead, all the contestants were scored out of 20, not 30.

Even though no one went home tonight (phew!), the judges weren’t holding back on their scores. Here’s how everyone stacked up after their first performances:

  1. Robert Irwin and Witney Carson scored a 15/20.
  2. Whitney Leavitt and Mark Ballas got a 15/20.
  3. Hilaria Baldwin and Gleb Savchenko earned a 14/20.
  4. Alix Earle and Val Chmerkovskiy got a 13/20.
  5. Lauren Jauregui and Brandon Armstrong received a 13/20.
  6. Jennifer “Jen” Affleck and Jan Ravnik earned a 12/20.
  7. Danielle Fishel and Pasha Pashkov scored a 12/20.
  8. Elaine Hendrix and Alan Bersten received a 12/20.
  9. Baron Davis and Britt Stewart got a 10/20.
  10. Dylan Efron and Daniela Karagach scored a 10/20.
  11. Scott Hoying and Rylee Arnold earned a 10/20.
  12. Corey Feldman and Jenna Johnson received a 9/20.
  13. Andy Richter and Emma Slater got a 9/20.

These rankings could change, though, as the final weekly placements are based on the judges’ scores and the audience votes, which are received during the live show over text and online.

However, based on the scores and the social media reactions, it’s safe to say that Irwin will be moving on. And if you don’t believe us, watch his routine below, which Hough called: “The best first dance I’ve ever seen on the show!”

‘Dancing with the Stars’ season 34 airing schedule

Season 34 of Dancing with the Stars will continue to air Tuesday nights at 8pm on ABC until it crowns a winning celebrity and professional. Currently, there is no official episode count or release schedule; however, in the past, the show has typically consisted of 10 to 11 episodes and has stopped airing around Thanksgiving.

They have also had themed episodes, such as Disney Week, Halloween Week, Taylor Swift Week and more. No Season 34 themes have been announced, but we cannot wait to see what they are.

Whether you’re rooting for Robert Irwin to keep up his winning streak or hoping your favorite underdog will surprise us all, one thing’s for sure—we’re in for a season full of unforgettable performances, heartwarming moments and the kind of inspiring comebacks that make Dancing with the Stars so special. Here’s to all the magic still to come!
