Vanessa Morgan has been a member of the undead in My Babysitter’s a Vampire, a Southside Serpent in Riverdale and now she’s Max, a con woman turned police consultant, in Wild Cards.

The lighthearted “buddy-cop” series follows Max (Morgan), who spends most of her time scamming anyone she can and ends up partnering up with Detective Cole Ellis (Giacomo Gianniotti) to avoid jail time. In this unlikely duo, Ellis is the classic by-the-book detective, while Max utilizes her conning skills, including disguises and her charm.

“You don’t get stuck playing one character for four seasons—that’s what I love about it,” Morgan shared of her character. “Whenever I get to wear different wigs and look like a different person, that’s always really fun.”

Given the fact that Morgan has brought so many fun characters to life, it was no surprise to see her step into this exciting role as Max, a woman who is confident and full of life.

“I loved that she is a leading lady,” Morgan shared. “She’s confident and her personality is so fun. She doesn’t let anything get to her and you don’t see her have a bad day very often. She always believes everything’s going to work out for her and I love that about her… She’s really dynamic.”

What to expect in Season 3 of ‘Wild Cards’

With Season 3 of Wild Cards in full swing and Season 4 currently being filmed, you can expect a lot more of the comedic procedural on The CW. The show was renewed for both Seasons 3 and 4 ahead of the third season release back in May 2025.

“I’m filming two seasons at once right now, so I feel like I’m blurring them, but in Season 3, my mom comes back after I thought she was dead,” Morgan explained. “Ellis comes back from his trip to Mexico with a girlfriend, which is devastating for Max, because she wanted to go on that boat trip with him. You’re going to see a love triangle, and then you’re also going to see a new bad guy come to town.”

Meanwhile, Max has had to do some growing up since the prior season, with her new position as an official police consultant. And even though Max was previously scamming her way through life, she now has to become a more professional version of herself.

Morgan shared her perspective on how Max has changed since the show first aired in 2024, commenting,, “I think she’s become a lot more wholesome. She’s clearly craving that family life and being more grounded. She wants to get out of the conning life.”

While you’re busy falling in love with Morgan’s portrayal of Max on Wild Cards, there are a few prominent roles you might remember the actress from. In 2011, Morgan starred as Sarah in My Babysitter’s a Vampire—a Disney Channel hit—which followed the geeky Ethan who discovers his babysitter is a half-vampire and they need to work together to save their town from a cult of evil vampires.

Morgan also starred in Riverdale’s second season as the pink-haired, cool girl Toni Topaz and soon became a key character. The series became a major cultural phenomenon, lasting for seven seasons.

“It was great. Nothing can really prepare you for something like that,” Morgan shared of her time on Riverdale. “It’s one of those once-in-a-lifetime type of shows where they just really blow up. Getting to be a part of that was such an experience in my life and getting to experience that with such a great group of people and make friendships that we’ll have for a lifetime. Riverdale has some crazy storylines, and I feel like I’ve done it all from being on the show.”

Both roles were significant moments in Morgan’s career and became beloved characters, a feeling the actress shares. When asked which roles she would reprise, Morgan explained, “It would be Tony Topaz on Riverdale and Sarah on My Babysitter’s a Vampire. I loved playing Sarah.”

But while she would love to bring those roles back to life, the actress reflected on how she incorporates bits and pieces of her past characters into her new ones.

“You take a bit of all your characters when you move on to a role,” she said. “I feel like Max is a mess of all of them with some new bits as well. She’s such a unique personality and she’s just so fun. There’s a little bit of everybody in there, and then 50% somebody that I created.”
