Before he was John Edwards, the rugged bachelor of Independence, Kansas with a mysterious past, Warren Christie was stealing hearts as one of your favorite Hallmark hunks. Having appeared in several films for the channel over the years since his debut in 2008, it’s probable that you’ve already been obsessing over Christie for years.
For those who are unfamiliar with the actor, you can get to know him through his current role on Netflix’s adaptation of Little House on the Prairie. Christie stars as Mr. Edwards, an iconic character from both the books and the 1974 series, though this version is a bit different than the one you remember. While the original series showcased the comedic aspects of the character, Netflix homes in on his darker past and struggles with PTSD, resulting from events of the Civil War.
Meet the man behind the new Mr. Edwards and learn more about his career pre-Little House, including the time he’s spent on Hallmark.
Warren Christie’s early career

Born in Belfast, Ireland on November 4, 1975, the British-Canadian actor has been on the big and small screen for over 20 years. He began his career in 2001 with a few minor roles in series like Pasadena (2001), The Twilight Zone (2003) and Battlestar Galactica (2005). In 2007, Christie earned his breakout role when he became a series regular on October Road, alongside Bryan Greenberg and Laura Prepon.
He starred as Ray ‘Big Cat’ Cataldo in the series, which went on for two seasons until 2008, which is also the year he booked a part that would change his life.
Christie’s time on Hallmark
In 2008, Christie snagged a lead role on Hallmark’s The Most Wonderful Time of the Year, alongside Brooke Burns and Henry Winkler. The film follows a hardworking single mother (Burns) who falls for a handsome stranger (Christie) that her uncle (Winkler) brings home for the holidays. But he is unimpressed with her feelings towards Christmas—which she treats more like a business transaction than a holiday—and there’s little indication she’s willing to change her ways.
“I remember when I did that movie, I had just gotten home, I was doing a show and [when it was pitched with] Henry Winkler, that’s a once in a lifetime thing,” Christie recalled. “So I did the movie, and I had such a good time. And Brooke Burns was incredible and Henry was everything you’d hope he could be… It’s the thing I get brought up to me more than anything, not just at Christmas Con, but in general.”

Since then, the actor has starred in eight more films on the channel, including The Color of Rain (2014), If Only I Had Christmas (2020), Crashing Through the Snow (2021), Holiday Road (2023), The More Our Love Grows (2023), Our Holiday Story (2024), Home Turf (2025) and A Royal Montana Christmas (2025).
Although Christie has been with the channel for over 15 years, he still enjoys being a part of the films and telling the heartwarming stories that Hallmark is known for.
“The one thing that’s very, very impressive about Hallmark is they’re their own entity,” he explained. “There’s not this fear training people up and giving them opportunities because they’re gonna leave. They do it because they know people want to be there and tell these stories… so many people stay there for so long because of how well they’re treated and the opportunities that they’re given.”
In between his roles on Hallmark, Christie has also appeared in Apollo 18 (2011), Alphas (2011-2012), This Means War (2012), Motive (2014-2016) and The Watchful Eye (2023). You can also catch the actor with a minor role in some of your favorite shows such as Once Upon a Time (2011), Arrow (2012), Castle (2013) and Chicago Fire (2015).
Warren Christie’s life behind-the-scenes
While the actor continues to crush it as Mr. Edwards and with his extensive career on Hallmark, Christie’s life behind the scenes seems to be going just as well. He has been married to his wife, Sonya Salomaa, since 2007. Also an actress, Salomaa can be seen in roles including The Collector (2005-2006), Watchmen (2009) and UnREAL (2015-2018).
The couple have one child together, a son named Cash, though not much is known about him, as they keep their personal lives far from the spotlight.
