General Mills Has Quietly Discontinued 3 Cheerios Cereals: Find out What Fan-Fave Flavors are Gone
Cereal lovers are hit hard by this loss—and if you love ‘em, too, here’s what you can eat instead
Since the debut of Cheerios in 1941, originally as “Cheerioats” to offer the masses a ready-to-eat oat cereal, dozens of varieties of the classic breakfast brand have hit grocery store shelves. Though some (like Peach Cheerios and Toasted Coconut Cheerios) were intended to just be limited editions, others have gone on to be lasting favorites. Unfortunately, even some flavors that have been a big hit with customers over the years haven’t stuck around in stores. That’s the case now with three popular varieties that will no longer be available. Keep reading to learn what Cheerios flavors have been recently discontinued and what similar cereal options are available.
Which Cheerios flavors were discontinued?
General Mills has quietly stopped production on three varieties of its popular Cheerios cereal, reports AllRecipes.com. Here’s a look at what’s leaving shelves:
Honey Nut Cheerios Medley Oat Crunch
Launched in 2013, this cereal offered customers a crunchier, nuttier twist on the classic Honey Nut Cheerios. “Honey nut Os, crispy flakes and crunchy cereal clusters come together in your bowl for the perfect crunch,” the product description reads. It was also promoted as a heart-healthy option, offering whole grains and low sodium.
But the appeal for many was the blended flavor of honey and almond. “This is my favorite Cheerios flavor to date!” a reviewer shared in 2023. “I add a banana and some almond milk and stay full for hours.”
Chocolate Peanut Butter Cheerios
One of the more surprising varieties to be discontinued is the Chocolate Peanut Butter Cheerios. The option was introduced in 2017 and has been a huge hit among cereal fans.
“Real cocoa and real peanut butter make breakfast all the sweeter,” reads the product description. The pairing is popular in countless candies and desserts, so it’s clear why many couldn’t get enough of the cereal. Like the Medley Oat Crunch, this box also had whole grain oats as the first ingredient.
Honey Nut Cheerios Minis
The newest of the three to be discontinued, with a 2023 release date, Honey Nut Cheerios Minis had all the same flavor of classic Honey Nut Cheerios packed into smaller pieces. It still offered whole grains, vitamins and minerals, just in the fun-sized bites.
The variety was one of many “minis” cereal options that have become available to customers over the last few years, like Lucky Charms Minis, Reese’s Puff Minis and Cocoa Puffs Minis.
What customers are saying about the discontinued cereals products
The news of the cereals being discontinued has left a lot of customers shocked and disappointed—many have even taken to the Cheerios website to post their thoughts in a review.
“I don’t like cereal…and I LOVE this product,” shared one customer about the Chocolate Peanut Butter Cheerios. “The only cereal I’ll ever eat. Trash decision.”
Others jumped on board with disappointment. “Why discontinue your best flavor? Please bring CPC back!” said another reviewer.
Fans of the Medley Crunch variety have been equally upset, with customers complaining for nearly a year now that they’ve been struggling to buy their favorite cereal in stores.
“Our family LOVES your Medley Crunch! Can’t find it anywhere! So frustrating!” wrote a customer. “It’s a great cereal and we’ve been enjoying it for about ten years! All we see when we search for it are these crazy flavors that are apparently not selling well. Please bring it back to our stores.”
As of now, there’s been no word as to whether General Mills would consider producing these varieties (or similar options) again for customers down the road.
Alternatives to the discontinued Cheerios flavors

If you’re a fan of any of the above Cheerios cereals, you may still be able to enjoy similar options for breakfast. While it can be tough to find an exact match that offers the texture and nutritional profile of Cheerios with the same great taste, equally delicious flavors can be found in other varieties and brands.
