McDonald’s Holiday Cups Are Back—See the Doodles Designs Everyone’s Talking About!

Temperatures are starting to drop (finally!), and retailers and restaurants are gearing up for the holiday season. Not one to miss out on the fa la la festivities is McDonald’s. The fast food chain already announced the return of its beloved holiday pies, and this year, it’s taking it up a notch with new holiday cups featuring designs from Doodles. Keep reading to learn more about the festive drop and how to get the cups.
Details about McDonald’s holiday cups
On November 18, McDonald’s started rolling out hot McCafe beverages in limited-edition holiday cups. The cups feature designs from Doodles—an art and entertainment company specializing in digital storytelling—and are available in small, medium and large.
Rather than focusing solely on Christmas with red and green hues, these cups depict classic winter scenes, such as building a snowman, snowboarding or spending time with friends and family. The color palette features blues, purples, pinks and yellows to accompany the holiday festivities.
McDonald’s hopes those morning coffee runs are a little brighter during a busy time. “It may not be the first thing you think about when you talk about McDonald’s, but coffee is an integral part of the McDonald’s experience,” said Tariq Hassan, chief marketing and customer experience officer of McDonald’s USA, in a statement. “This year, we’re making our coffee even more special by giving our seasonal packaging a fresh and unexpected collaboration with Doodles, the perfect partner as so much of their content revolves around mornings and coffee moments.”

McDonald’s is working alongside Doodles to help spread cheer and bring their Good Mornin campaign to life. According to Doodles’ website, their mission is “to define the standard for immersive storytelling and color the world with joy.”
For the collaboration, the McDonald’s holiday cups will also showcase popular characters from the Doodles community. Regarding storytelling, the first characters to appear will be Hap and Mello, two best friends within the Doodles universe. According to Doodles, Hap is a mad scientist crossed with a golden retriever, while Mello is always around to help with the technical details when he gets stuck.
More perks the holiday cups offer
Besides an exciting visual, the McDonald’s X Doodles holiday cups have more fun in store for fans. Customers who purchase a hot beverage through the app will receive special gifts in their inbox from Doodles, including a free access pass to their pilot episode and digital McDonald’s-themed apparel for their Doodles avatar.
Doodles created three exclusive collections of enamel pins, which will be available in their app on November 26. And if you’re feeling nostalgic, they also have limited-edition sweatshirts and hats printed with Grimace, other McDonald’s characters and the Good Mornin logo.
Buying a cup gets you one more perk! The purchase unlocks access to the song “Good Morning,” the official campaign track sung by Marley Bleu and produced by Pharrell Williams.
Fans’ reactions to McDonald’s holiday cups
McDonald’s posted about the exciting collaboration on its Instagram account on November 14. At the time, customers’ biggest concern was when they’d be able to see the cups in their local McDonald’s. As of November 21, all locations should have the new holiday cups in stock.
As the cups officially hit stores, fans are excited about the new designs and enjoy the accompanying song.
“Those are cute cups!!” one user wrote, while popular snacking blog @snackbetch commented, “These look fun!” Others wondered if the cups were reusable or disposable; the answer is that they’re made of paper, so they aren’t meant to be kept.
