Walmart Recalls Two Bakery Items Nationwide—Check Your Pantry and What to Do Next
Plastic contamination prompts Walmart bakery recall—here’s what you need to know and how to stay safe
Have you found your sweet tooth acting up in the Walmart bakery section lately? It’s wise to check your recent purchases. A recall was recently issued for a few of Walmart’s Great Value bakery items, and some of your sweet treats might be affected. According to the FDA’s report, two popular items have been impacted: The Great Value Cinnamon Rolls that were sold in 16.5 oz containers with a UPC of 078742201177 and the Great Value Cheese Danish, also sold in 16.5 oz containers with a UPC of 078742201160 are those that have been affected.
Why have these Walmart items been recalled?
These days, it seems like there’s a new recall every other day, with consumers worried about how the food they are purchasing will affect them in the long run. In this particular instance of the Walmart bakery items, the reason for the recall is due to pieces of plastic being found in the goods. The pastries, which were wrapped individually and sold in a box of twelve, were sold nationwide. As for the Cinnamon Rolls, 1,602 cases were included in the recall, in addition to 2,027 cases of the Cheese Danishes.

What to do if you purchased these items
Being that these items were sold prior to November 1, there’s a good chance they’re no longer in your kitchen. However, if you still have them in your home, it’s best to dispose of them or take them to the store from which you purchased them and ask for a refund. This particular recall is categorized as a Class II, which means the threat of serious or life-threatening outcomes is slim, but the chances of “temporary or medically reversible adverse health consequences” are possible, per the FDA website.
With that in mind, if you’ve consumed either of these products over the last month or so, your risk of illness is minimal, however, the FDA report doesn’t indicate whether or not there have been any reported injuries or illnesses related to consumption of this product.
Have there been other Walmart recalls lately?
Over the last year, Walmart, along with countless other grocery stores and retailers, have been affected by recalls. Just this week, carrots sold in select Walmart locations were recalled due to potential E. coli contamination. In October, frozen waffles sold under the Great Value brand were recalled due to potential listeria contamination. Prior to that, Bacalaitos Criollos Codfish Frying Mix and Lactaid Milk, both sold at Walmart locations, were also recalled—the fish fry potentially containing undeclared fish and the milk potentially containing trace amounts of almonds.
While no crystal ball can tell you whether the foods you purchase for you and your family can be recalled in the future, the best thing to do is remain vigilant. The FDA website offers information about recent product recalls and what to do if you’ve purchased any.
