Why were these chicken nuggets recalled?
These recalled frozen nuggets, which were a fully cooked product that are no longer on shelves, were recalled due to the fact that the store began receiving several complaints from customers stating that the nuggets contained extraneous material including bone fragments. These products were produced back in August, but some Wegmans customers may still have these lying around their freezer. Though there have yet to be any reports of injuries related to consumption, it is advised that you dispose of these chicken nuggets immediately.

How does bone fragment contamination happen?
Meat products being recalled due to bone fragment contamination is not a new phenomenon. As a matter of fact, it’s something we’ve seen many times in the past. Back in 2023, Hillshire Farms recalled one of their smoked sausage products due to bone fragment contamination. In January of 2024, Salm Partners, LLC recalled their ready-to-eat turkey kielbasa for the same reason. According to TDI Packsys, causes for contamination include “mistakes made during deboning, contamination during slaughter and problems with machinery.”
The fresh produce (from peppers to cucumbers) was sold at grocery stores in 18 different U.S. states
Though as a consumer there isn’t much you can do as far as controlling food production, keeping an eye out for recalls is the best way to look out for your health and safety.
