15 Silly Wild Animal Photos That Will Make You Laugh Like a Hyena

In the mood for a good laugh? No need to turn on your TV for a sitcom or standup special — the Comedy Wildlife Photography Awards Finalists for 2020 have arrived to give us all a good chuckle.

Just like last year’s entries, the photographers up for awards this time were all able to capture some seriously priceless moments out in the wild. But as hilarious as each of the goofy animals are, it’s not just about putting a smile on our faces. As the organization explains in a press release, “In addition to providing some light-hearted relief, the competition aims to highlight the extremely important message of wildlife conservation in and engaging and positive way.”

The organization also shared some tips on how we can all become “conservationists at home” to help protect our environment and the animals who rely on it — including all the silly ones featured in the competition photos. Take a look:

Shop Locally and Responsibly

Being in lockdown has made us all shop a little closer to home, and the organization recommends keeping that up!

“Why not carry on? It helps in all sorts of ways from supporting small, local business to shrinking your carbon footprint — and is way more fun! And if you can avoid buying un-recyclable products and one-use plastics/packaging, even better!”

Put Plant Boxes on Your Windowsills

They describe this as “one of the easiest things to do” for conservation: “Put a plant box on your windowsill, grow some flowers, and give the bees somewhere to go.” You can also check out our tips for starting your own backyard beehive to help keep the little pollinators’ population from dropping.

Only Fly Long Haul If You Really Have To

This one is pretty easy for all of us to follow at the moment! And, as the organization points out, most of us have gotten really good at keeping in touch over video calls, too. “Let’s embrace this new whizz technology and only take those flights if there is really no other way.”

Become a “Wild Influencer”

You don’t have to become a “mega activist,” as they put it, to show how much you care about the environment on your social media pages. You can get some creative ideas to promote conservation — inspire others to do the same — by checking out the Comedy Wildlife Photography Awards website. This is also where you can vote on the People’s Choice Award winner and check back in to see who gets the top spot on October 22.

And although we didn’t spot any hyenas among the finalists, there’s a good chance you’ll laugh like one when you take a look.
