Grey Eyes Shown in Rare and Stunning Photos

Grey eyes are among the rarest eye colors in humans. But much like super-rare amber eyes, grey eyes are also some of the most beautiful in all of the world.

How rare are grey eyes?

Sadly, there are no hard-and-fast numbers available on how many people in the world have grey eyes. In fact, experts say grey eyes are often mistaken for being blue by many people at a first glance. If this has happened to you, don’t be embarrassed! Blue eyes and grey eyes are quite similar genetically. Ultimately, at least two things can determine whether someone ends up with grey eyes—the amount of melanin (or pigment) made and the density of the proteins in the stroma (or supportive tissue). Both are likely influenced by genetics.

Nevertheless, something to look for that differentiates grey eyes from blue is the subtle flecks of gold and brown sprinkled throughout the irises. Grey eyes also have something in common with the similarly rare hazel eyes—they appear to change color based on the lighting around them. They can appear to be grey or blue or even green depending on the setting.

So grey eyes may be misunderstood, or even go undetected. But this doesn’t take away from the raw uniqueness and beauty that they convey.
