Mailing out letters and cards is about to get a little more expensive! The United States Postal Service (USPS) recently announced a stamp price increase, which will soon impact customers who need to pay for postage for any outgoing mail. Luckily, you can cut costs by grabbing your stamps before the change goes into effect—and by knowing where to shop. Below, find out everything you need to know about the new prices and the limited-time retail deal that helps you save even more on Forever Stamps.

How much will the USPS stamp increase cost you?

Forever stamps, first introduced in 2007, are great to have if you frequently send mail. The reason? They never expire and always cover the cost of a standard 1-oz. first-class letter, no matter when they were purchased. This means that even if the postal rates increase, you won’t have to pay any extra for postage if you already have Forever Stamps on hand. Since this happens quite frequently (usually once per year), it can be beneficial to stock up on the postage and use it as needed.

Many customers are already taking this approach following the news of yet another price increase. Though Forever Stamps currently cost 78 cents a piece, they will soon be sold for 82 cents each.

The postal service has been vocal this year about its financial struggles, which is the driving factor behind the decision to implement a 4.8 percent price increase across all mailing service product prices. Here are the other prices that will be going up in July:

  • Letters (metered 1 ounce): 74 cents to 78 cents
  • Domestic postcards: 61 cents to 65 cents
  • International postcards: $1.70 to $1.75
  • International letter (1 ounce): $1.70 to $1.75

Wondering if you’ll see these changes during your next trip to the post office? Find out more about the timeline below!

When does the 2026 stamp price hike go into effect?

If you’re looking to buy Forever Stamps at their current 78-cent price, you’ll want to act fast! The new prices go into effect this upcoming Sunday, July 12.

You will still have the option to purchase individual stamps, sheets or books at your nearest post office, but you can also purchase a sheet of 10 in your favorite design on the USPS website for $7.80.

The post office is far from the only place you can buy Forever Stamps, however. One major retailer offers them at a slight discount—and will continue to do so past the price change!

Plenty of retail stores sell the popular stamps, but one in particular stands out for its competitive pricing: Costco! The warehouse membership chain sells 100-count booklets of Forever Stamps for $77.75—25 cents less than you’d be paying elsewhere.

While this may not seem like a big discount, the offer will definitely come in handy after this Sunday. The Costco website states that the $77.75 price for the booklet will remain valid through August 10, 2026, which is nearly a month past the new price increase. Considering 100 Forever Stamps will cost $82 during this time, it’s definitely a steal!

One important note: You must be a current Costco member to purchase the stamps online or in-store. But if you have a family member or a friend with a membership, they may be able to help you out and buy on your behalf!

New Forever stamp designs to buy before prices rise

Costco only sells two different Forever Stamp designs—the American flag and sunflowers—but that’s only a sampling of what’s available. You can find even more options featuring pop culture icons, historical figures, sports and Americana themes at the post office. A Barbie stamp collection is even dropping on July 11!

Whether you’re looking for something patriotic or nature-inspired, pick up your favorites now to get them at the 78-cent price—before it’s too late.
