If you’ve shopped at Dollar General in the past decade, you might be able to cash in on the discount store’s current $8.5 million class action settlement. Recently, the store agreed to a class action lawsuit settlement over claims they were overcharging customers. Find out whether you might be able to participate in the settlement, how to file a claim and how much money you can earn from it.

What is the settlement?

Dollar General has received complaints in the past few years from customers claiming they were charged more at the register than what was advertised on store shelves. Although Dollar General has not admitted to any wrongdoing, they have agreed to pay $8.5 million to resolve the lawsuit.

Who can participate?

The lawsuit was filed for those who made Dollar General purchases between October 10, 2016 and November 19, 2025. So if you’ve shopped at Dollar General in the past decade, you might be eligible to participate in the settlement. According to court documents, the settlement class, or those who can participate in the settlement, “includes all consumers in the United States who paid more or less for merchandise than the advertised price labeled on the shelf at a Dollar General store.”

If you fall in this settlement class, you have four options on how to proceed. You can:

  • File a claim and receive the settlement benefits
  • Do nothing and utilize the in-store benefit (see below)
  • Remove yourself from the settlement by March 2, 2026 and not receive any benefits
  • File an objection with the court by March 2, 2026 and allow your views to be heard in court

How to file a claim

If you choose to file a claim, it is very simple to do so and receive your money. Your claim must be submitted by April 13, 2026, and you can do so either online or by mail. But you shouold only file a claim if you have proof of purchase from the designated timeframe.

If you are filing online, head to DGPriceSettlement.com and complete the claim form. If you choose to file by mail, you must download the PDF version of the form and fill it out before sending it in. Make sure it is postmarked by April 13 to make the deadline.

To file a claim, you will need to submit proof of purchase in the form of receipts or other proof of the price discrepancy. These must be attached to your claim, whether a digital version or physical copy.

How much is the payment?

If you’ve submitted a claim, you can receive up to $10 or the amount of the actual overcharge, whichever is higher, for each separate complaint. Class members can receive up to two payments, with the maximum of $20 per household.

You will also be eligible for an in-store benefit. The benefit is a $3 discount on the first $10 of any purchase of at least $10. This benefit will be available to class members for a specific two-day window, though those dates are yet to be determined.
