These Guardian Angel Encounters Saved My Life—Real Stories of Close Calls and Miracles
How two near-death experiences left reader Joseph Angelieri Jr. believing in the power of guardian angels
During my life, I’ve had many close calls with danger. One time, I was on my way back to school after spending the weekend at home with my family. I was driving a 1962 Volkswagen bug that had no gas gauge, and would only go a maximum of 60 mph downhill.
I was on a two-lane road behind a logging truck that was loaded with logs. We were traveling uphill, and the truck was going very slow. Since there was a solid yellow line on the road, I couldn’t pass it.
When we reached the top of the hill, I noticed that there were no cars coming in the opposite direction. I thought it would be the perfect time to pass the slow truck downhill and be on my way.
Saved by my guardian angel at a busy intersection

As I passed, I noticed in my rearview mirror that the truck’s left rear tire came off. Then the whole load of logs crashed down on the road right where I had just been. If I had waited any longer to pass, the logs would have landed right on top of me in my VW bug!
In another guardian angel encounter, I was driving my 1971 MGB-GT and was stopped at a red light at a busy highway intersection. I couldn’t see to my left because I was next to a big truck.
As the light turned green, I proceeded to cross the highway when a truck loaded with dirt ran the red light and hit me between the left front tire and the driver’s side door.
The impact was so hard that my car spun around out of the intersection and landed in a grassy area off the roadway. I had to crawl out through the passenger side window. People in cars who saw the accident stopped and gathered around me.
As I stood there to gather my thoughts, I saw the EMTs arrive. I heard one of them say, “Where’s the body?”
My car was destroyed, but the only injury I received was a bruise on the interior of my thigh. I’ll always be thankful to my guardian angel for watching over me!
