Blind Cat’s Soothing Snuggles Helped His Sick Grandma Overcome 17 Radiation Treatments

Tags:

Therapy animals have a beautiful talent for snuggling up with those who most need to be soothed. The animals come in all sizes, ranging from dogs and cats to horses trotting around to lend a calming presence. These precious fur balls will do whatever it takes to help patients forget about their suffering for a moment, even if it’s just lending a soft head to pat — as you’ll see from the little guy in the clip below.

Donny is a blind cat who has been diagnosed with cerebellar hypoplasia, a disorder that makes him a bit wobbly when he roams around. Despite his conditions, he has become especially good at comforting patients, including those who happen to be in his own family. His owner, Susan Smith, posted this video on the Instagram account he shares with his adopted cat siblings. Donny is shown cuddling with Smith’s mother in her hospital bed on September 7, 2018. The 88-year-old was being treated for lung cancer and can be heard softly cooing, “That’s my Donny,” as she pets him.

Thankfully, a series of 17 radiation treatments worked to rid Donny’s “grandma” of the cancer. Smith also believes the sweet boy gave her a boost with his own “healing power.” It’s easy to agree with her, especially when you see how much joy Donny spread to the woman in the other bed, too. Her face lit right up when they drew the curtain back to give her a better view of him.

And those aren’t the only patients Donny has helped while regularly visiting hospitals as a therapy pet. Smith tells WomansWorld.com, “He is an amazingly loving cat. He will go to each patient and stay on their lap for as long as they need him.” She even claims Donny might know how beneficial his affection is for patients. “Even when he’s done, he will not leave the groups — he lays by their feet until I pick him up.”

Smith describes seeing his therapy work as “absolutely heartwarming,” and we couldn’t agree more. Who wouldn’t feel better after spending quality time with such an adorable little buddy? It’s wonderful to know Donny is out there putting smiles on so many faces. You can follow him and his whole cat family on their Instagram page for more precious photos and videos.
