This Clever Tool Will Clean Your Makeup Brushes for You

Tags:

We all know the importance of cleaning our makeup brushes on a regular basis to avoid breeding a whole host of unwanted bacteria. But when it comes down to it, many of us skip this tedious task, because, well, who has that kind of time? Your excuses for this beauty negligence have just run out, however, thanks to Selene’s makeup brush cleaner and dryer ($21.99, Amazon)

This delightful little USB-rechargeable machine does all the hard work for you, polishing up any makeup brush and drying it for use in as little as 30 seconds. To use, simply fill the glass base bowl with soap and water, or a good brush cleansing liquid, like this best-selling EcoTools makeup brush shampoo ($4.97, Amazon), and fit the included neck into the bowl. At the other end, you’ll attach the battery-operated brush to a spindle and select one of 13 brush holders, or “collars,” to fit onto its top (watch the video below for a visual of how this works).

From there, you’ll pop your brush into the collar holder, dip it into the liquid, and turn the device on to watch it whirl! To dry, lift your brush out of the water and let the machine continue to rotate for roughly 10 seconds.

And, voilà! You’ve got yourself a fresh, clean brush. That’s good news, considering that the American Academy of Dermatology warns continued use of bacteria-ridden brushes can lead to rashes, breakouts, or worse — think fungal, E. coli, or even staph infections! *Shudder*

Reshaping your brush afterward is of utmost importance for keeping it usable, so you’ll want to finish by grooming it with your fingers.

Once you’ve got the hang of it, you can play around with this washer’s varying speeds (select from one of three). It even comes stocked with a mat, so you won’t dirty up your bathroom while you’re getting your beauty tools in sparkling order.

Your purchase comes with a two-year warranty, and, if you’re not entirely sold, there’s a 100 percent product replacement guarantee. Judging by its more than 300 five-star glowing Amazon reviews, though, we’re guessing you won’t need it.

Wrote one happy customer, “I’ve never been so impressed with a product!! I generally don’t wash my brushes as often as I need to since it’s just a lot of work … and drying time. I used soap and water and my brush was clean and dry in less than 1 minute. … After cleaning, my brushes looked new again, too.”

Added another: “This is truly amazing! It is cleaning and drying so quick. I am a makeup artist, I have tons of brushes in different sizes, which I use on daily basis. Being able to clean them so quickly and so efficiently is a dream come true for me.”

With such an easy-to-use system, even the busiest of makeup fanatics are sure to find the time to sneak in the Cleveland Clinic’s recommended washings of once a week for liquid brushes and every two weeks for eye brushes — or more. Looks like our brushes are in for a serious makeover!
