Daughter’s Blooming Flowers Brings Her Peace After Losing Her Father: “I Know It Was a Message of Love!”

'Woman’s World' reader Cheri Brunvand’s father, an avid gardener, found a beautiful way to let her know his love would always endure

For the last 20 years Woman’s World magazine has featured the weekly “My Guardian Angel” column, where real women share first-person accounts of their amazing encounters with Angels. Now, we are sharing those heartwarming stories of loving comfort, Heaven-sent helpers and miraculous rescues online with the mission of continuing to spread hope and light.

Here, Woman’s World reader Cheri Brunvand’s father, an avid gardener, found a beautiful way to let her know his love would always endure.

Cheri’s Guardian Angel story told in her own words:

My dad had Parkinson’s disease. Even when his condition declined, leaving him wheelchair bound, he remained positive.

His favorite activity was watering his flower garden. As I would wheel him to his flower beds, he always pointed to a particular sprinkler head. He insisted it needed to be repaired. Right beside the sprinkler head was a scraggly looking weed. It appeared, like my dad, to be struggling to survive.

When an unresponsive state overtook Dad’s body, I took the hose and began watering his plants. The weed was still there! But it was no longer scraggly. Unlike my dad, it had become stronger. I didn’t know what it was. I wasn’t versed in horticulture, and for all I knew, it was a defiant weed attached to the sprinkler head. I ignored it. My mind was on my dad, not on some renegade weed.

One morning, when I went outside, the weed had turned into a flower. It hadn’t bloomed; but I knew it was a flower. It had buds waiting to burst open.

I rushed to tell my dad about this incredible plant. He couldn’t speak, but he could hear, and a smile spread over his face. As the days passed, the plant grew stronger, but my dad grew weaker.

When our friends, neighbors and relatives stopped by to see Dad, they noticed the flower. The buds had opened and displayed a dazzling, vibrant color. It radiated with beauty and love — just like the memories my dad had given me — and I knew it was a message of love from him.

That flower, which turned out to be a marigold, continued to bloom during Dad’s Celebration of Life. Everyone who attended walked over to admire my dad’s marigold. Today, it remains anchored to the sprinkler head and spreads my dad’s message of love and strength as it continues to bloom every summer.
