You might expect Dolly Parton to have a massive house that’s filled with glitter from the ceiling to the floor. We’re sure the country queen herself wouldn’t blame you considering her reputation for being over-the-top when it comes to her own appearance. But it turns out she actually prefers a more humble home — and you can get a good look inside just by turning on your TV.
That’s right, the “Jolene” singer, who is usually known for keeping her private life, well, very private, didn’t stop cameras from rolling into her Tennessee abode back in 2018 when actress Reese Witherspoon arrived to film the first episode of her inspirational series Shine On.
The pair cover a lot of ground in Parton’s home, starting with a look inside her surprisingly modest kitchen where she’s whipped up a hefty breakfast of eggs, sausage, bacon, and fruit for them to share. She also dishes out some words of wisdom when it comes to finding strength as a woman.
Take a look in this clip from the episode:
Can you imagine just sitting at a breakfast table with Dolly Parton? We’d be in such awe we aren’t sure we’d be able to take a single bite, although we’re sure she’s an excellent cook!
Even Witherspoon, who’s been friends with the singer for years, gets understandably overwhelmed every now and then while they chat throughout the episode — especially when they go through all the bedazzled costumes in her closet. At one point, a bead falls off a gown Witherspoon is holding and the actress looks absolutely mortified. But Parton assures her that it happens all the time. Apparently, her crew jokingly calls the stray sequins “Dolly droppings.”
The episode also takes you on a tour through the small chapel Parton has attached to her home where she likes to go when she feels overwhelmed or “just wants to pray.”
You can also find more inspiring female faces in more episodes from the series, including director Ava DuVernay, singer Pink, and actress America Ferrara. We’re just especially fond of getting this rare glimpse into Parton’s personal life — and home!
