Prince Philip Is the Spitting Image of Grandson Harry in Royal Throwback Photo
Prince Harry has always stood out from the rest of the royal family, and not just because of his laidback lifestyle: It’s mostly been due to his red hair. Although his older brother William inherited their mother’s blonde locks (and passed that down to his own son, George), Harry has always turned heads with his follicles’ vibrant red hue.
However, the unique hair color doesn’t mean Harry didn’t have other unmistakable family traits passed down to him. It might be difficult to tell now that his grandpa is nearing his 100th birthday, but Harry seems to have gotten a lot of his good looks from Prince Philip. Royal photographer Chris Jackson unearthed a throwback photo of Queen Elizabeth’s husband that left many royal fans doing double-takes — the young Duke of Edinburgh was the spitting image of his grandson! The resemblance is especially noticeable thanks to Philip’s facial hair.
The photo was the cover of a French magazine published in 1957. Jackson believes the image may have been a black-and-white negative that was colorized, which only makes the similarity between Philip and Harry even more apparent. Doesn’t it look like there’s a bit of red in his beard, too? Plus, the white military uniforms worn by both men make them look like carbon copies.
But it’s not just the scruffy facial hair and similar outfit that makes the comparison so compelling; Prince Philip apparently passed down his smile to the younger royal, too! Take a look at the photo Jackson shared of Harry and his wife Meghan on the cover of the same French magazine more than 60 years after his grandpa’s face graced it.
Princess Charlotte and dad Prince William also made news for their own uncannily familiar facial expressions, based on an unearthed photo of the prince as a youngster. Of course, it’s not strange for members of the same family to share certain characteristics with each other. Chances are, you and your own parents and grandparents have a few physical qualities in common, too. We just can’t help but be blown away by how incredibly similar Philip and Harry are in these images, especially while we anxiously wait to see what looks his own little one might inherit from the royals.
