“Adding eye-catching caramel highlights to a deep brunette base enhances the golden ‘flecks’ in warm, medium or darker skin tones,” says celebrity colorist Mike Petrizzi.

Get the look: Use a highlighting kit formulated for darker hair like Garnier Nutrisse Ultra Color Balayage Kit in #BY1 Icing Swirl (Buy from Walgreens, $7.99) to create the most natural-looking streaks. Use the included applicator to brush the bleach onto one-inch sections of hair throughout. Let sit for 40 minutes, then rinse.

Blending cool, gray roots in with a rich, darker hue creates a gorgeous two-tone effect that flatters all skin tones, says celebrity colorist Rick Wellman. This also adds depth and dimension for a fuller-looking mane and helps incoming grays appear more intentional.

Get the look: Once grays have grown in at least an inch, paint a dye close to your natural, non-gray hue (tip: look to your eyebrows as a guide) onto small1 1⁄2-inch sections of hair through the crown. Let sit for 30 minutes, then rinse.

“Bright blond, face-framing highlights pop against warm skin for a look that’s instantly more youthful and energized,” says Petrizzi. And the halo of light created by concentrating streaks around the face directs focus upward, counteracting any droopiness or sagging for a face-lift effect.

Get the look: First, paint the bleach from a highlighting kit like Revlon Color Effects Frost & Glow in Blonde (Buy from Walmart, $6.98) onto two 2-inch sections of hair on each side of the face from roots to ends. Next, apply the bleach onto other, varying one-inch sections of hair around the face, from roots to ends. Let sit for 45 minutes before rinsing.

“The vibrance of a warm shade of burnt red brings out a peaches-and-cream glow within skin,” says Petrizzi. “Plus, the radiance ensures a fair skin tone doesn’t appear washed-out.”

Get the look: Apply a strawberry-blond dye like AGEbeautiful Anti-Aging Permanent Liqui-Creme Hair Color in #9RC Light Strawberry Blonde (Buy from Sally Beauty, $9.89) to roots, then work through ends with a comb. Cover with a shower cap (this creates cuticleopening heat so dye absorbs better). Let sit 30 minutes; rinse.

“A brunette base with soft, blended golden highlights imparts warmth to cooler skin for a glowing complexion,” says Wellman. “What’s more, it adds mega shine and movement to hair.”

Get the look: Choose a 2-in-1 kit that includes dye for the base color and bleach for the highlights like L’Oréal Paris Couleur Experte in #6.1 French Eclair/Light Ash Brown (Buy from Target, $13.99). Apply the base color all over hair and let sit 30 minutes; rinse. Next, apply highlights onto various 1⁄2-inch sections. Let sit 30 minutes; rinse.
