How This Woman Reversed Pre-Diabetes, Lowered Cholesterol and Fought Fatigue Without Medication

'I didn’t know I could feel this good!' said Rose Weinstein after discovering a C15 supplement

The morning was slipping away as Rose Weinstein sat on her couch, trying to gather the energy to start her day. The Indianapolis grandmother had hours of errands ahead of her, but despite the ticking clock, she couldn’t muster the strength to get moving. “What is happening to me?” she wondered.

Tiredness was never a problem for Rose, who had always been full of life juggling work, family, volunteering and an active social life. But about a decade ago, Rose suddenly found herself dragging through her days, despite consistently getting a good night’s sleep.

Having entered her sixties, she first figured this fatigue was normal, a sign that she needed to slow down or even give up doing some of the things she loved. But when her annual blood work in 2016 showed various health issues, she realized it was more than just getting older. Rose wondered if maybe there was more to her fatigue than she’d originally thought.

First, her cholesterol rose to the point where her doctor put her on statins, which made Rose uneasy. She didn’t want to rely on medication for the rest of her life and couldn’t help worrying about potential side effects. Additionally, her A1C level—a measure of your average blood glucose level —had climbed to 6.1, putting her in the pre-diabetic range. (Normal levels are under 5.7, pre-diabetes 5.7–6.4 and diabetes is greater than 6.4.)

Rose was terrified her doctor would recommend medication to control her blood sugar level, something she didn’t want to take. In fact, despite trying a few different statins, her cholesterol remained elevated. Eventually, she stopped taking them altogether. But knew she needed to find a way to lower her A1C and cholesterol levels to avoid serious health risks like heart disease or stroke. I have to do something, she vowed.

Her doctor emphasized the importance of daily exercise, but Rose lacked the energy to even take a walk. “What can I do to reclaim my health?” She wondered, feeling desperate.

Discovering a supplement to lower A1C naturally

In early 2023, during lunch with a friend, Rose listened intently as the woman talked about a supplement she was taking to both improve her health and boost her energy: pentadecanoic acid (C15). Her friend explained that C15 is an essential saturated fatty acid that studies have found beneficial for immune, liver and heart health.

At home, Rose did some research on C15 and found that people with low levels of C15 can have a higher risk of developing diabetes, heart disease and fatty liver. She also read that C15 can reduce inflammation in the body, which can contribute to health issues, including heart disease. She learned that C15 also strengthens cell membranes making them more resilient, which can ramp up energy, too.

Encouraged by what she learned, Rose decided to give it a try. Since her friend had positive results with a brand called Fatty 15, ($120 for a 90-day supply on Fatty15.com, though prices start at $7), Rose bought a bottle and began taking one 100-mg capsule every morning before she had breakfast.

Just one month into her new routine, Rose realized she was spending less time “resting” on the sofa in the middle of the day. By the three-month mark, she was able to get up and out of the house by 8 A.M. and even began riding a recumbent bicycle and taking walks.

Rose was delighted to have more energy. She was no longer yawning her way through reading bedtime stories to her grandchildren or making excuses to forgo dinners out with friends because she knew she’d be too tired to go out for a meal or enjoy their company.

But the real breakthrough came at her annual physical in November 2023. “Both my doctor and I were shocked and thrilled when my A1C was down to a healthy 5.6 and my cholesterol was also in the normal range, both without any significant change in my diet. My doctor doesn’t believe in supplements, but C15 has been a lifesaver for me. I have never felt better!”

Today, at 73, Rose says she has more pep in her step than she’d had in years.

3 ways to lower your A1C naturally

If you’re looking for more ways to lower your blood sugar, here are three easy and effective strategies that don’t require medication:

  • Enjoy a soak

When you sink into a hot bath, the water gradually increases your body temperature to help push glucose into muscles, mimicking the impact of exercise. It’s so powerful that just spending 16 minutes a day in the tub can prevent blood-sugar spikes that leave you tired and shaky. And it can lower your risk of an unhealthy A1C by 31 percent.

  • Take an evening stroll

Any sort of movement encourages the body to use sugar to fuel muscles instead of letting it accumulate in cells as fat. While you can do this at any time of day, researchers reporting in the journal Diabetologia found that study participants who did so in the evening reduced insulin resistance by 25 percent, helping to lower their A1C over time.

  • Savor strawberries

Enjoying a few of these gems daily can help bring your A1C into a healthy range. That’s thanks to rich stores of plant compounds and a hefty dose of fiber that slow digestion to blunt blood sugar spikes. According to research from Harvard, two servings (16 or more berries) weekly can lower your risk of elevated A1C by 33 percent.
