10 Animals With Supernaturally Enchanting Eyes

View gallery

Animal eyes come in an endless variety of shapes, colors, and sizes. While cat eyes and dog eyes might be some of the most famous peepers out there, stunning eyes can be found across the entire animal kingdom. These photos of some of the most beautiful animal eyes prove it.

Why Animal Eyes Are So Captivating

We all know the saying, “The eyes are the window to the soul.” Though it’s unclear who first spoke these words, the origins have been traced as far back as biblical times. Because this concept of learning someone’s true feelings and emotions just by looking closely at their eyes is still around today, there must be at least some truth to it. While most of us are compelled to think of humans with beautiful eyes when we hear this saying, we think it’s just as applicable to animal eyes — if not more so.

After all, we as humans have virtually unlimited ways of communicating with one another, most notably through spoken language. With animals, we don’t have that same luxury. Although we can still speak sweet human words to our pets or favorite creatures at the zoo, there’s no clear way for animals to respond in a similar manner (and no, a parrot “telling” us she wants a cracker doesn’t count). But what we can do is gaze deeply into animals’ eyes. If you’ve never done this before, you’d be surprised at the vast array of emotions you can observe with this simple act. Emotions usually associated with humans — such as happiness, sadness, fear, anger, and love — are often very much present in animal eyes as well.

If you adore animals as much as we do, this ability to see a little further beyond the surface is nothing short of valuable. While we may never have 100 percent certainty what’s going on through animals’ minds, we can get a pretty clear glimpse by simply taking a closer look (literally) at their eyes. So why not appreciate all the splendor those lovely baby blues and wide-eyed browns have to offer?
