See Dolly Parton’s Most Iconic Hairstyles From the ‘60s to Now
From voluminous crops to long curls, here are some of her most notable ‘dos
She’s one of Hollywood’s most iconic legends of all time, not just when it comes to music but also when it comes to her glamorous look. Dolly Parton has never been one to shy away from changing up her style, both when it comes to her outfits as well as her hair and makeup. She’s all about big hair, sparkly eyelids and extravagant (in the best way) outfits and accessories—and we’re all for it. Here, we take a nostalgic walk down memory lane and look at the best Dolly Parton hair looks from the ‘60s to now.
How Dolly Parton’s hair has changed through the years
Even though she’s changed up the style and length throughout the years, Parton has always been about the bigger the better when it comes to her hair. Her signature look is full of volume and teased roots, and of course her platinum blonde color, and that’s been the case for decades.
Part of how she’s maintained her signature style? Through wigs and hair pieces. Parton has been super transparent and honest about how she relies on wigs and wears them often, to not just change up her look but also not have to bleach and damage her natural hair as much. “It was handy to have several looks that I could just choose from, and never have a bad hair day,” the singer told Vogue in an interview.
As far as lengths go, Parton has played around with short, medium and long hair lengths alike. Back in the day, you might catch her in an ear-length crop one day and a curly, long mane the next.
What Dolly Parton has said about her hair
In an interview with Allure, Parton said she probably owns at least 365 wigs because she wears one almost every day. She’s even given nicknames to a few, such as “The Goldilocks” for her curly ones. And even though she has a wig for every day of the year, she’s not always wearing a wig. She went on to say she only wears a wig, “if I’m out in the public doing things like this or if I’m doing shows. But if I’m home, I keep my own hair bleached and use the same length [as my wigs] so I can just pull it up in scrunches and do fun things with it. Wigs are just so handy. I am not the kind of person that can wait and sit under a hairdryer. It’s not healthy for your hair to use it the way that I [would have to].” And she doesn’t just wear wigs, but said she also mixes in some hair pieces and bangs as well.
Additionally, in an interview with Entertainment Tonight, the singer said her husband isn’t a fan of all of her wigs, in particular, ones that look “too stationary.” She told them, “When I wear my hair too stationary, I said, ‘You don’t like my hair?’ And he said, ‘Well, it looks too important.’ There’s a certain look that looks important.”
