Ted Danson & Mary Steenburgen: Hollywood’s real-life love story

Ted Danson and Mary Steenburgen’s relationship is the stuff Hollywood dreams are made of. After meeting on the set of Pontiac Moon in 1993, the sparks between them quickly turned into a lasting bond that has captivated fans for decades. Married since 1995, the couple is beloved not just for their heartfelt performances onscreen but for their genuine affection and playful partnership in real life. Whether cheering each other on at awards shows or sharing sweet anecdotes in interviews, Ted and Mary’s love story proves that true romance can thrive in—and outside of—the spotlight.

Danson and Steenburgen are both highly successful actors in their own right, and chances are you’ve seen at least one of them in something over the years. You’ve also probably seen one of the things they’ve worked on together, but if you haven’t—or if you just want to rewatch them—you can learn more from the list below.

‘Pontiac Moon’ (1994)

In this 1994 family saga, Washington Bellamy (Danson) and his son Andy (Ryan Todd) go on a road trip throughout the Western United States, while Katherine (Steenburgen)—the wife and mother—stays home to try and overcome her neuroses. Fun fact: this film was where Danson and Steenburgen first fell in love.

“We both said the same phrase to ourselves, which was: ‘Obviously we cannot be in a relationship,'” Danson told People of their time on set in February of 2021. “I could ruin anything. I’m not relationship material.”

‘Gulliver’s Travels’ (1996)

In 1996, the two teamed up again for the TV miniseries Gulliver’s Travels. The plot follows Lemuel Gulliver (Danson) after he returns home from a magical journey that took him to four unbelievable places. It’s based on the bestselling novel written by Jonathan Swift and has a total of two episodes.

‘Ink’ (1996 to 1997)

Filled with love, drama and workplace dynamics, this 1900s sitcom is a must-watch. In it, journalists Kate Montgomery (Steenburgen) and Mike Logan (Danson) must find a way to work together after their heartbreaking divorce. To make matters worse, Kate was just named Mike’s boss.

Ink is currently not available to stream.

‘Living with the Dead’ or ‘Talking to Heaven’ (2002)

This 2002 mini-series follows James Van Praagh (Danson) after he begins having visions of dead people. Among them are the victims of a local serial killer, leaving him no choice but to team up with local detective Karen Condrin (Steenburgen) to try and catch the killer—before it’s too late.

‘It Must Be Love’ or ‘Surviving Love’(2004)

Danson and Steenburgen in a romcom? Sign us up! In this 2004 made-for-TV movie, George and Clem Gazelle are on the brink of a divorce, but when a massive snowstorm leaves them stranded together, old feelings begin to rise to the surface. A sweet story centered around love and second chances.

‘A Man on the Inside’ (2025)

Danson and Steenburgen’s latest team-up will be in A Man on the Inside Season 2—a show that follows a man named Charles (Danson), who gets hired to go undercover and solve crimes. In it, she will play a woman named Mona Margadoff, someone who might just steal Charles’s heart, even though she might be involved in the crime he was hired to solve.

“It’s just magical,” Danson said on his podcast Where Everybody Knows Your Name earlier this year. “We’re falling in love. The story evolves, but I’m just head over heels. My character is in love with her, and to sit there on camera and look into your wife’s eyes—and we’re nauseatingly in love in private life—and just disappear into her eyes in front of a camera is pretty astounding.”

Season 2 of A Man on the Inside releases on November 20, and you can watch Season 1 now on Netflix.
