Cameron Mathison is filming ‘A Christmas Anniversary’ in Budapest—and fans are swooning over the pics!
Back in 2024, Candace Cameron Bure and Cameron Mathison starred in Home Sweet Christmas, which became an instant holiday classic. The love for this duo resulted in the birth of a second film, Another Sweet Christmas, which just hit the big screen—but it gets better! A few days ago, Great American Family announced that a third film in the franchise, A Sweet Christmas Anniversary, would be coming in 2026, and fans are ecstatic to see what the next chapter holds. Cameron Mathison, who plays the beloved leading man Sam, recently took to Instagram to share a sneak peek at filming, which is already underway in Europe. What is ‘Home Sweet Christmas’ about?
In the first film, Home Sweet Christmas, Candace Cameron Bure starred as Sophie, who learns that her great uncle Henry has passed and that he left her 60 percent of his maple forest property in Washington. Returning back to the place she once found great comfort in, she’s met with Sam, her childhood best friend, to whom Henry left the other 40 percent of the property. Joining forces, the duo begin fixing up the property, hoping to sell to someone who will honor the legacy and memories the house and land holds—but spending time together once again just might spark something deeper.
What is ‘Another Sweet Christmas’ about?
The second film in the franchise, which was just shown in theaters from November 30 to December 2, continued Sophie and Sam’s love story. This time around, their dazzling romance gets the Hollywood treatment, with Sam having the opportunity to direct a Christmas movie inspired by their love story in Waynesbridge, Washington. When Sam gets down on one knee, asking Sophie to be his wife, the excitement of wedding planning and bringing their dream celebration to life is clouded by the stress and demands of the film, forcing them to confront the real-life struggles that affect even the best of relationships.

For the third Home Sweet Christmas film, Sophie and Sam are stepping away from Waynesbridge for a bit! As explained in a press release, “Sophie and Sam embark to celebrate their first anniversary in picturesque Budapest, Hungary, a sprawling Christmas postcard city adorned with decorations and lights, a place one can almost smell the scents of mulled wine and gingerbread.” However, their trip proves to be full of surprises—and even some mystery! Since the film was announced, both Cameron and Candace have opened up about their experience filming in Europe.
“Budapest, first few days. New set, new story, and a team bringing their best every day. A few snapshots from behind the scenes,” Mathison wrote in an Instagram post where he shared a few behind-the-scenes photos.
Candace Cameron Bure chatted with Us Weekly about her time spent bringing the story to life in Europe as well, saying, “I’ve never filmed in Europe before, so it is very exciting.” We can’t wait to see what romantic adventures await Sophie and Sam in Budapest—and we’ll be sharing all the updates as they come!
