Throughout their almost 60-year-long marriage, singer, chef and theme park owner Dolly Parton has remained rather tight-lipped about her husband, Carl Thomas Dean. But now, in an exclusive interview with Woman’s World, the “Coat of Many Colors” singer has decided to open up about every aspect of their marriage, including what her first impression of him was and what dessert he simply cannot live without. Dolly Parton shares her first impression of Carl Thomas Dean
Parton and Dean met in 1964 at a laundromat called Wishy Washy in Nashville, Tennessee. The singer was 18 at the time, and he was 21. But despite the age difference, Parton says that it was love at first sight.
“I thought he was the cutest thing I’d ever seen,” the singer told Woman’s World in December. “I thought that he was meant to be and it has turned out. And he said it was truly love at first sight. I’d always heard that, but it truly was.”
Following their meeting, Parton and Dean dated for two years before eventually tying the knot in 1966. The ceremony was small and, according to a picture on the singer’s website, Parton wore a short white dress, white shoes, gloves and a small veil, whereas Dean opted for a traditional black suit.
The couple has been happily married ever since and currently lives in Nashville, Tennessee. Wonder if they ever drive by the laundromat where they met!
The first big purchase they made as newlyweds
For any newlywed couple, making a big purchase is no small feat. For Parton and Dean, that purchase came in the form of a car.
“My first car was actually mine and Carl’s first car,” Parton revealed exclusively to Woman’s World. “I was not that good of a driver. And so we bought a car, and that’s the one I ran into the RCA building.”
“It was a blue Chevy station wagon.”
Here’s hoping Parton has gotten better at driving since then!
Carl Thomas Dean’s guilty pleasure: chocolate everything!
It turns out even spouses of celebrities have a sweet tooth because, according to Parton, her husband cannot do anything without eating something chocolatey.
“He’s a chocolate-ite,” the singer shared.“And I’m always getting him chocolate cakes and chocolate pies and chocolate pudding. Anything chocolate.”
The singer also revealed that Dean is particularly fond of her chocolate cake, revealing that it’s “his favorite thing.”

Dolly on why Carl is her forever love
Being married for 58 years and knowing each other for 60 is no small thing. But for Parton, doing so with Dean was one of the easiest things she had ever done.
“I think I’ve had many loves, but Carl is my best and lasting,” she told Woman’s World. “He was the one that’s lasted for 60 years.”
Parton and Dean do not have any children together, but they do have several nieces and nephews. Parton is also the godmother to singer and actress Miley Cyrus, who is 31 years old.
