Gaia Wise is building her Hollywood resume

Gaia Wise doesn’t just resemble her famous mom in terms of looks—but in talent as well! While her on-screen debut came in the early 2000s, it was over the last few years that she’s really begun leaving her mark. She’s appeared in series like The Chelsea Detective, films like Danced (2024), has lent her voice to The Lord of the Rings: The War of the Rohirrim (2024), and even appeared in Dead of Winter (2025), where she played the young version of her mother’s character. However, her most notable role has been in the latest season of the hit PBS Masterpiece series All Creatures Great and Small as Charlotte Beauvoir.

Charlotte enters the series seeking care for her horse, and before long, sparks fly between her and Tristan. Tristan returns from the war shaken by his experience, and her character gently reminds him throughout the season that, despite the ways he has changed, she likes him exactly how he is. Additionally, having her own experiences serving in the war, she has an understanding of how he feels in a way others don’t.

“It’s been one of my favorite relationships I’ve ever got to play on screen. I think Gaia [Wise], who plays Charlotte, is one of the most wonderful actresses I’ve gotten to work with,” shared Callum Woodhouse, who plays Tristan, in conversation with PBS Masterpiece. “She was a joy to play all those scenes with, she’s just spectacular. And I think our chemistry is wonderful, so I really lucked out in finding someone that I get along with.”

“I loved her tenacity and her absolute, staunch character,” revealed Gaia Wise while also chatting with Masterpiece. “It’s not often you find that the female stories of World War I and World War II being written about, and I felt very privileged to play her and to be able to bring this staunch, emotional, flawed, open character to the screen.”

In addition to Gaia, whom Emma welcomed in 1999, she’s also mom to Tindy Agaba Wise. Tindy was a refugee from Rwanda whom Emma and her husband took in as a teen, and their connection proves that family means more than just blood relation. “Family is the centre of everything for me,” she told The Guardian. “But family is about connection, not necessarily about blood ties. It’s about extended family—and extending family.” After having Gaia, Emma and her husband tried for another child for three years with IVF, but she revealed that she was ultimately happy with the way things panned out.

“I couldn’t have more children, and that was hard; but perhaps if I had [had more], I’d have missed out on this extra act of mothering that I’ve had with Tindy. Because there was space in my life for him, and I don’t think there would have been space if I’d had another young child around.”

With standout performances in All Creatures Great and Small and beyond, Gaia Wise is making it clear that her family has not one, but two incredible actresses to celebrate. And if Emma’s words about motherhood teach us anything, it’s that the greatest gift parents can give is the space for their children to shine—which is exactly what Gaia is doing!
