TOP STORIES

Life can be intense, so it can be nice every once in a while to wind down with a cozy film or television series that simply puts you at ease. Sure, we love high-stakes drama and intricate storylines, but sometimes, there’s nothing better than escaping, and All Creatures Great and Small is the perfect distraction. The latest version of the British television series hit screens in 2020 and has been going strong ever since. The series is actually based on the novels by James Herriot, a veterinary surgeon whose real name was James Alfred Wight. Sharing his tales of caring for animals in his Yorkshire practice for decades, his heartfelt stories have resulted in the series fans love to visit when times get tough. While the sixth season is currently airing in the US on Masterpiece for PBS, fans can get excited knowing that the show has been renewed for both a seventh and an eighth season! Here, everything we know about All Creatures Great and Small Season 7 and Season 8.

What is ‘All Creatures Great and Small’ about?

Set against the backdrop of the dreamy Yorkshire Dales, All Creatures Great and Small revolves around a group of three veterinarians. Siegfried Farnon is played by Samuel West and is introduced as the eccentric backbone of Skeldale House, where he runs his veterinary practice. Enter James Herriot, played by Nicholas Ralph, who joins the series as one of Siegfried’s assistants. His compassion and gentle demeanor make him a fan favorite, and he leads the show with an energy that’s hard to duplicate. Also joining the practice is Siegfried’s younger brother, Tristan, played by Callum Woodhouse. While James serves as the main piece of the show’s puzzle, it’s the cast of characters that surround him that make this show so beloved. Over the course of the show, which actually takes place before and during World War II, we watch as relationships grow and life alters as a result of it. In spite of this, the show continues to remain a light watch, with drama that’s never too serious, a handful of chuckle-worthy moments to lighten the mood and beautiful scenery where it all unfolds.

‘All Creatures Great and Small’ Season 7 and 8 renewal news

All Creatures Great and Small Season 6 premiered back in 2025, but it didn’t become available to audiences in the United States until last month, when it debuted on Masterpiece on PBS. With the finale airing at the end of February, fans of the show are already looking ahead at what’s next—and celebrating the news that it’s returning for a seventh season! Back in November, it was announced that the show would be returning with two more installments. Each season is set to contain six episodes, as well as Christmas specials.

All Creatures Great and Small has found its way into the hearts of American audiences and is one of our most-watched series on Masterpiece,” shared Susanne Simpson, Head of Scripted Content and Executive Producer for Masterpiece, in a press release. “I’m thrilled to bring more seasons of the warmth, hope and humor that make this series so special to Masterpiece PBS.”

When will ‘All Creatures Great and Small’ Season 7 and Season 8 come out?

Fans of the heartwarming Yorkshire veterinary drama can officially celebrate as PBS Masterpiece has confirmed a massive double renewal for All Creatures Great and Small through both Season 7 and Season 8. While Season 6 is currently delighting US audiences on Sunday nights following its January 11, 2026, premiere, filming for the seventh season is slated to begin in the Yorkshire Dales in February 2026. Both upcoming installments will stick to the show’s beloved format of six episodes plus a Christmas special, likely following the established annual rhythm of a late-year UK release on Channel 5 followed by a US debut on Masterpiece on PBS in early 2027 and 2028, respectively.
