Harrison Ford and Calista Flockhart’s 24-Year Love Story: ‘I’m Indeed a Lucky Guy’
The ‘Star Wars’ icon opened up about his 'extraordinary beautiful wife' at the 2026 Actor Awards
During the 2026 Actor Awards on Sunday, March 1 1923 actor Harrison Ford accepted the SAG-AFTRA’s annual Life Achievement Award and during his acceptance speech the 83-year-old took the time to thank his loving wife Calista Flockhart.
“I want to say thank you, truly, from the bottom of my heart, to my peers, to my extraordinary beautiful wife Calista and my family, who have given me love and courage through all of it, and thank you to SAG-AFTRA for honoring me with this prize,” Ford said. “I’m indeed a lucky guy. Lucky to have found my people, lucky to have work that challenges me, lucky to still be doing it. And I don’t take that for granted.”
To celebrate this beautiful moment, we have decided to look into Ford’s relationship to Flockhart, which has lasted 24 years! Read on to learn the details.
The beginning of Harrison Ford and Calista Flockhart
Ford and Flockhart met at the Golden Globe Awards in 2002 after being introduced by the actor’s agent. At the time, Ford was legally separated from his second wife Melissa Mathison, but that didn’t stop him and Flockhart from going on a date.
“I saw this lady. I asked my agent: ‘Wow! Who’s that girl?’ Ford told The New York Times in 2024. ‘That’s Calista Flockhart.’ I said, ‘Oh, what does she do?’ He says, ‘She’s Ally McBeal.’ I hadn’t really seen it. I said, ‘Well, could you introduce us?’ He said, ‘Yes.’”
“She spilled wine on me, or I spilled wine on her or something, and that sort of sealed the deal. I said, ‘Where do you live?’ She said, ‘I live in Brentwood.’ I said: ‘So do I. Would you like to have a drink?’ She said, ‘Well, maybe, but I have to bring my agent.’ I said, ‘OK, I’ll bring my agent, too,” he continued. “We went to the old Brentwood Bar and Grill and had a drink. I lured her up to my house and we danced, and then I took her home. Make sure you put that in the story. And we’ve sort of been together ever since.”

Following that, the two continued to get to know each other. And what better way to do that than in the air alongside Flockhart’s son Liam.
“Calista loves to fly, and I’m thrilled because it’s so important to me and it’s the kind of thing that’s so much more fun with somebody who really enjoys it,” Ford told People magazine in 2003. “Liam loves to fly. Calista likes the process, she likes what she sees from the air, she likes seeing me happy. I think a lot of it has to do with that she loves to see me doing something that I love.”
Harrison Ford and Calista Flockhart tie the knot
Ford and Flockhart got engaged in 2009. They then tied the knot a year later, and during that time Ford also adopted Flockhart’s son Liam.
“It’s a wonderful opportunity to be part of a child’s growing up, which is always an endless springtime,” Ford said in 2010, per Parade. “You see the blossoming and the growing and the nurturing and the payoff. Being a parent made me just a bit less self-centered.”

After their marriage, Ford and Flockhart continued to walk red carpets together and they continued to fly together, even after the Star Wars actor crashed one of his planes into an L.A. golf course in 2015.
“He loves it [flying], so I love it, and I support him 100 percent,” Flockhart said in 2015, per People. “I think it just makes you realize once again that life can turn on a dime, and we just have to appreciate every second we’re here, because you never know.”
Harrison Ford and Calista Flockhart now
Ford and Flockhart, 61, are still together and can often be found at award shows and premieres together. They also like to prank each other, with Flockhart telling The New York Times “I’m called the ‘Scare Monster’ in my house because I hide behind every corner. And so Harrison will walk in, and then I’ll go, ‘Raaah!’ And he’ll go, ‘W-uy-aah!’ And then I die laughing.”
“I’ll put a plastic spider inside his big ice cubes in the tray, and then he’ll drink it,” she continued. “But then I’ll go to bed two weeks later, and he’s out of town in Jackson, and I’ll take the covers down and there’s this little rubber scorpion. It’s fun.”

Also in that interview Flockhart revealed that she thinks that they are both “pretty introverted. We stay home a lot, homebodies, which is nice.”
“We’re very independent of each other in some ways and probably incredibly codependent on each other in others,” the actress continued. “When I first met him, he said, ‘You are the most self-sufficient woman in the world, and I don’t know how I feel about that.’ I remember I said, ‘What are you talking about?’ Because I didn’t recognize I was self-sufficient.”
