Samuel L. Jackson and Wife LaTanya’s 45-Year Love Story: ‘We’re Still Glued Together’
From theater students to Hollywood power couple—the secret to their beautiful bond
Any couple that can withstand the trials and tribulations of marriage for 45 years deserves to be celebrated, but for Samuel L. Jackson and his wife LaTanya, they’ve managed to do so while also enduring the added pressure of high-profile Hollywood careers, parenthood and addiction. This adorable duo has been together since 1980 and has built a beautiful life together, but it wasn’t always a picture-perfect love story. As we’ve enjoyed getting to watch the 76-year-old Pulp Fiction (1994) actor shine opposite Sylvester Stallone in Taylor Sheridan’s Tulsa King, let’s take a look back at the relationship between Samuel L. Jackson and his wife, LaTanya Richardson Jackson.
How did Samuel L. Jackson meet his wife?

In the 70s, the duo met while they were both attending different colleges in Atlanta. At that time, both Samuel and LaTanya were both active in theater. Though Samuel is the name that might stand out amongst the two, his wife LaTanya has acted since childhood, and she, too, has enjoyed a successful career both on the stage and on the screen. The 76-year-old actress has appeared in films like Fried Green Tomatoes (1991), The Fighting Temptations (2003) and more, as well as made appearances in dozens of television series—her most recent credit being an episode of Criminal Minds. As for her work on the stage, LaTanya has both acted and directed on and off Broadway, and she even earned herself a Tony nomination for her performance in A Raisin in the Sun in 2014. Additionally, she’s even worked alongside her hubby over the years!
Do Samuel L. Jackson and his wife have kids?

Samuel L. Jackson and his wife have one child, a daughter named Zoe Jackson. Zoe, 43, has followed in her parents’ footsteps to a degree as she also makes a living in the television industry—but this celebrity kid prefers life behind the camera, instead working as a producer on various television series such as Selling the City, Project Runway, Top Chef and more. “A constant source of joy & bursting pride & delicious gastronomic surprises. Love you today & errrrrrrday,” Jackson wrote in a birthday tribute to her back in 2020.
LaTanya Richardson stuck by her hubby when times got tough
In the early 1990s, Jackson was at the height of his struggle with drug and alcohol addiction. However, the turning point occurred when his wife and daughter discovered him unconscious. “I threatened to leave him if he didn’t see the rehab through,” LaTanya recalled to The New York Times in 2012. “I knew I couldn’t leave this boy I admired so much. But I resented him too. I hated it when he slurred his words. A wife hates to see her husband be weak.”
His stay in rehab, though tough, allowed him to find it within himself to see what his life—and career—might end up like should he stay clean. Luckily, the duo weathered the storm and came out on the other side.
“50 years ago we started dancing, it was all fun & games,” Jackson wrote on Instagram back in 2020 in celebration of his and LaTanya’s anniversary. “40 years ago today, s–t got real! The slow drag of our lives pressed together, I led sometimes, sometimes she did. We finally found that rhythm where there was no leader, we moved as one. We’re still glued together, hip to hip, holding each other up, not covering as much of the floor, but owning & loving the space that’s ours.”

As for the key to their marriage, Samuel L. Jackson shared with AARP that a successful partnership requires “A lot of tolerance, because everybody’s got flaws, and not giving up when it would be easy to give up. I’ve done s— in my marriage that’s crazy, you know? She has, too, in her head, or whatever in reality, but you got to go, ‘Is that a breakup offense?’ Or is it just that we need to spend a little time together and get some understanding about it? Or there are certain things that you learn to ignore about people—that she’s learned to ignore about me. And one of the things she had to accept is that I’m going to go to work. I’m going to go to work all the time until, you know, it’s time.”
After 45 years together, Samuel and LaTanya prove that real love isn’t about perfection—it’s about showing up for each other, even in the hardest moments. Their journey from young theater students to Hollywood power couple shows that with tolerance, understanding, and unwavering commitment, love really can conquer anything. And for them, the best is yet to come.
