For years, Taylor Sheridan and Paramount seemed synonymous. After all, it’s the production company that allowed him to bring Yellowstone and its prequels and hits like Mayor of Kingstown, Lioness and Landman, to life. But Sheridan is saying goodbye to Paramount and hello to NBCUniversal, as the media empire has allegedly offered the television giant a contract worth $1 billion. However, Sheridan’s split with Paramount didn’t happen overnight.
Why did Taylor Sheridan leave Paramount?
As the story goes, Paramount’s merger with Skydance Media resulted in a meeting between Sheridan and Paramount’s new owner, David Ellison, but even before this, tensions were brewing between the Yellowstone mastermind and the network he called home for years. Money disputes and rejected film scripts were already turning things sour, but when Sheridan learned that Nicole Kidman, who stars in his series Lioness, was cast in another Paramount show—one that potentially conflicted with the filming schedule of Lioness—without his knowledge, the knife had been twisted. Behind the scenes, NBCUniversal was making an offer he couldn’t refuse, and now, it leaves many wondering what the future of the Taylor Sheridan-verse looks like.
Though Sheridan might be saying goodbye to Paramount, it doesn’t seem as though his series will be going anywhere, and this shake-up doesn’t mean losing access to the stories you love. Mayor of Kingstown, starring Jeremy Renner, follows Mike McLusky and his family, who act as the bridge between the outside world and the prison that serves as a hub in their community. This series also streams on Paramount+.

Sylvester Stallone takes the lead in Tulsa King as a mafia capo released from prison and sent to Tulsa, Oklahoma, to begin operations. This gritty crime drama can also be streamed on Paramount+.
