On screen, Kate Winslet has shown the world that she can tackle just about any genre with grace, poise and pure talent—but her roles on screen aren’t the only parts she’s felt lucky to play. The 50-year-old Titanic (1996) star, who has just made her directorial debut with her latest film Goodbye June (2025), is a proud mom to three kids—two of which have already broken out into the glitzy and glamorous world of Hollywood. Over the last few years, Winslet has actually joined forces with her two eldest children for some of her most notable projects. In 2022, she acted alongside her daughter, Mia Threapleton, and son, Joe Anders, in an episode of the anthology series I Am… titled “I Am Ruth.” Now, in 2025, she’s bringing to life her son Joe’s screenplay with Goodbye June. Here, get to know Kate Winslet’s kids and read all about her relationship with her daughter and two sons.

Winslet welcomed her eldest child, her daughter Mia, with her ex-husband Jim Threapleton, and the rising actress has already worked alongside some of the biggest names in the industry. Earlier this year, she had a starring role in Wes Anderson’s The Phoenician Scheme, but the 25-year-old has been acting since 2014. Some of her other notable credits include series like Dangerous Liaisons, The Buccaneers and an episode of the anthology series I Am… titled “I Am Ruth,” in which she was lucky to work alongside her accomplished mom. “I Am Ruth” told the story of a mother whose daughter began suffering from the effects of social media.

“It was really extraordinary. It was very challenging for both of us–because obviously, creating a mother-daughter story, there was inevitably going to be some areas of overlap, and we certainly know how to push each other’s buttons,” Winslet shared with Vogue back in 2022. “Luckily, we’re incredibly close, and we’ve always had a fairly open relationship in terms of how we communicate. That definitely helped us when we were working with such difficult subjects. But I was just, daily, so impressed by her. She has a natural style and courage.”

Joe Anders, 21

Kate’s middle child, Joe, is 21 years old and already leaving his mark on the industry. Kate and her ex, Sam Mendes, had Joe back in 2003, and he’s already dipped his toes in different areas of filmmaking. Joe has acted in series like I Am… alongside his sister and mother, and he’s also made appearances in films like 1917 (2019) and Bonus Track (2023). His latest project is Goodbye June (2025), the film starring and directed by his mom that he wrote the screenplay for.

As for bringing her son’s screenplay to life, Winslet is protective of her children being labeled “nepo babies.” “I don’t like the nepo baby term because these kids are not getting a leg up,” Winslet told BBC. “You know, [Joe] would say to me, ‘I don’t want people to think that this film is just being made because you’re my mum.’ The film would have been made with or without me, the script is so, so good.” She continued, “There are lots and lots of people in the world whose children go into a similar family business, whether it’s being a judge or a lawyer or a doctor.”

Bear Winslet, 12

Kate shares her youngest son, Bear, with her husband Edward Abel Smith, and at just 12 years old, the youngster is largely kept out of the limelight. Though not much is known about Bear, his mom did reveal a few years back during an appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live that he had ambitions of becoming an actor! With such a talented and supportive family cheering him on, there’s no doubt Bear—and all of Kate’s children—will continue to shine in whatever paths they choose. After all, with a mom like Kate Winslet showing them how to balance artistry with authenticity, these three are destined for remarkable things!
