GMA’s Tory Johnson (Host of ‘Deals and Steals’) Says This Advice From Her Grandma Has Kept Her Marriage Strong
Good Morning America Deals & Steals contributor and bestselling author Tory Johnson isn’t just known for having her pulse on what shoppers want and need. She’s also a devoted mother and wife of over 20 years to her husband, Peter.
Having been married for more than two decades, Johnson has heard her fair share of advice on how to keep a romantic bond strong over time and how to make sure two people in a relationship both truly appreciate one another.
But out of everything people have said over the years, Johnson’s best marital advice comes from her grandmother, who told her before her own wedding over 20 years ago that marriage takes work. What did she mean by that? “Don’t take people for granted. Your best relationships will come because you worked at it,” she explains to Woman’s World. “Things might feel like they come naturally, and that’s likely because you put in the work, because you were an equal partner, you listened, you were considerate, forgiving. That has served me well, not just in marriage, but in life with colleagues, friends, and [others].”
It sounds like her grandma was one very smart woman! She also provided Johnson with her favorite beauty tip: “She taught me to use hand cream, because our hands show age, and [they’re] often where we don’t invest in product,” she says. “[We] tend to care more about [the] face than [the] hands, but when [my grandma] died at 95, she would always say, ‘Don’t forget your hands!'” Johnson doesn’t have a favorite brand, but her advice is a good reminder to grab some hand cream the next time you’re making a run to the drugstore!
And while you’re at it, don’t forget to pick up the latest issue of our magazine, Woman’s World, (buy on newsstands now or on Magazine Shop, $3.49) where Tory Johnson talks about her other favorite beauty products, her go-to stress reliever, and more.
