Did You Know Walton Goggins Starred in a ‘Little House’ Film Adaptation? All About His Role as Almanzo
The 'White Lotus' star has a vast career that has some unexpected twists
After the Season 3 finale of The White Lotus, all anyone can talk about is Walton Goggins, who brought to life the character of Rick. Though Rick met his demise in the final episode, with his girlfriend Chelsea paying the ultimate price for his crimes as well, his performance in the show was one that stood out as one of the best—but this certainly isn’t his first rodeo! You’ve likely caught his distinctive face in series like The Righteous Gemstones, Justified, The Shield and Fallout, but do you remember his stint in the Little House on the Prairie cinematic universe? Here, a look back on Walton Goggins in Beyond the Prairie: The True Story of Laura Ingalls Wilder (2000).
Walton Goggins played Almanzo Wilder in the ‘Beyond the Prairie’ film
Beyond the Prairie: The True Story of Laura Ingalls Wilder (2000) was a television film distributed by CBS that told her story differently than the popular television series did. The film followed the novel The First Four Years and chronicled the countless hardships Laura faced as she transitioned into adulthood, as well as her blossoming romance with her eventual husband, Almanzo Wilder.
In the film, Goggins brought to life the character of Almanzo. Meredith Monroe, known for her work on Dawson’s Creek, played the part of Laura Ingalls Wilder. Richard Thomas played Charles Ingalls with Lindsay Crouse playing Caroline Ingalls. The movie, which consisted of two parts, the second airing in 2002, gave viewers a look at her life in a way that differed from the way Little House on the Prairie did, and knowing that the man playing Almanzo would grow into such a sensation is a thrill!

Walton Goggins’s early career
While these days he might be a household name, Goggins had to put in the work during his early days in Hollywood. At just 19, he headed to the Hollywood hills on his own, making a living with his valet parking business, selling cowboy boots, a stint working at LA Fitness and various acting jobs in between. Raised in Georgia, though he wasn’t involved in theater or acting as a kid, he was surrounded by eccentric characters and storytellers that eventually piqued his interest in the craft.

“All we really had arts-wise was a lot of storytelling. Our family time was never about TV or cinema,” he told Vulture in 2016. “I grew up watching another aunt perform on stage from the time I was 6. I stayed with her while she was doing dinner theater, and I’d see these beautiful women changing backstage, the whole life, the bohemian lifestyle, the reaction from the audience and thought, ‘I want to do that. It’s very powerful.’”

While his hard work has taken him far beyond the early days of TV movies and guest appearances, we love knowing that there’s a tie between the Little House on the Prairie universe and The White Lotus!
