‘Duck Dynasty’ Phil Robertson’s Health Is ‘Not Good,’ Says Son Jase in Candid Alzheimer’s Update
The ‘Duck Dynasty’ star is battling Alzheimer’s and a worsening blood disease, says his son Jase
It’s never easy watching a loved one suffer, especially at the hands of a disease as cruel as Alzheimer’s, and the Robertson family, who many know as being part of the hit reality television series Duck Dynasty, recently got candid about the impact it’s having on patriarch Phil Robertson.
Jase Robertson, Phil’s son, recently opened up on an episode of Unashamed with the Robertson Family, a podcast he hosts alongside his brother Al and cousin Zach, where they discuss faith and family. On the April 2 episode, Jase pulled the curtain back, revealing that his dad’s health is unfortunately declining.
“The No. 1 question I get everywhere I go [is], ‘How’s your dad doing?,’” said Jase. “Now, I’m just giving the blunt truth. I say, ‘Not good,’” he said. According to the 55-year-old television personality, his father is now at the stage where he is receiving “some professional care.”

Jase Robertson gives update on Phil Robertson’s health
Back in December, Jase took to his podcast to inform listeners about his father’s health and clear up the rumors, where he revealed the tough battles he had been facing for some time. “You know, Phil’s not doing well,” he said on the episode. “According to the doctors, they’re sure that he has some sort of blood disease that’s causing all kinds of problems,” further explaining that the blood disease was something he had been dealing with for quite a while and was gradually getting worse.
He also revealed on this episode that Phil was dealing with the early stages of Alzheimer’s while also dealing with the complications of his blood disorder. “So, if you put those things together, he’s just not doing well,” he shared. “He’s really struggling.”
The Robertson family speaks out about caring for Phil

As hard as it is to watch a loved one’s health slowly deteriorate, keeping it together when faced with the reality of their condition is a battle all its own—and Jase’s cousin and co-host, Zach Dasher, got real about his emotions when seeing Phil after quite some time had passed since his last visit.
“I pulled in when Zach was coming out…and I was like, ‘How’d that go?'” reflected Jase. “And Zach just lost it, you know, and I kind of realized in that moment when you’re in these battles day by day you kind of compartmentalize everything just so you can deal with it.” Zach noted the difference between his experience with Jase’s, that as Phil’s son, he’s watching him fade more gradually. For Zach, it had been a little while since he had last seen the patriarch, and the difference in his condition from his last visit was jarring.
Despite the difficulty and sadness of the situation, Jase was sure to emphasize that they were appreciative of everyone’s prayers and thoughts for his family.
