When people hear the name Taylor Sheridan, they tend to think of his hit series Yellowstone and its growing slate of spinoffs, including 1923 and Dutton Ranch. But before heading to Montana, Sheridan spent years working in film—and now, it looks like he’s returning to that space.
In recent months, it’s been revealed that he’s involved in the development of two new feature films, both of which move away from the Western genre. Here’s what we know so far, including details on the projects and who’s attached to star.
What we know about Taylor Sheridan’s upcoming movies
From procedurals to adaptations, here’s everything we know so far about Sheridan’s upcoming films, that, as far as most people are aware, will represent a whole new direction for him.
‘F.A.S.T.’

F.A.S.T. is a high stakes procedural that follows a special forces commando who gets recruited to work with the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) to help lead a strike team against high-level Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) protected drug dealers. Sheridan wrote the script, and Ben Richardson (best known for Yellowstone) is expected to direct.
“The breadth of Taylor Sheridan’s body of work is simply astounding and unparalleled in sheer excellence and consistent quality, and we could not be more honored to be making this film with him,” Warner Bros. Motion Picture Group’s Michael De Luca and Pam Abdy said in a statement to The Hollywood Reporter. “With the hugely talented director Ben Richardson behind the camera and the exceptional producing talents of Heyday Films and Bosque Ranch, we are thrilled to have such an incredible creative team bringing F.A.S.T. to the big screen.”
The film brings together a strong ensemble cast, including Jason Clarke, known for Zero Dark Thirty and Mudbound; Trevante Rhodes of Moonlight and Bird Box; Sam Claflin, whose credits range from The Hunger Games to Daisy Jones & The Six; and LaKeith Stanfield, recognized for Judas and the Black Messiah and Someone Great.
Rounding out the lineup is Brandon Sklenar, who previously worked with Sheridan on 1923, suggesting a continued colaboration between the actor and the filmmaker.
“This script. This character. This team,” Sklenar wrote on Instagram after the film was announced in May 2025. “So much gratitude.”
F.A.S.T. will release in theaters on April 23, 2027 and as of publication the film doesn’t have any movie stills or trailers available.
‘Call of Duty’

Call of Duty is a highly popular video game franchise that centers around the player being a military shooter. It was first released in 2003, and has since gotten a plethora of reboots, revivals, merch and more. And now, thanks to Sheridan, it’s also getting a movie adaptation. The Yellowstone creator will work alongside director Peter Berg, who is best known for Friday Night Lights.
“Taylor and I are both deeply connected to the special ops community,” Berg said in a video message, per Variety.
In recent weeks the adaption has sparked a lot of backlash online, after it was revealed that Berg called gamers “pathetic” in a 2013 interview with Esquire.
“Can’t stand it. The only people that I give a Call of Duty get-out-of-jail-free card to is the military,” Berg continued. “They’re out there serving and they’re bored and they want to entertain themselves? Okay, maybe. Kids? Uh-uh… I think anyone that sits around playing video games for four hours… It’s weak. Get out, do something.”
As of publication, Berg hasn’t commented on that resurfaced interview. He also hasn’t shared much about what the Call of Duty movie will be about or who will star in it. We do know that it’s expected to hit theaters in 2208, so he and Sheridan have some time to figure all of that out.
“I told everyone we were only going to make a movie if it’s right. In David Ellison [CEO of Paramount Skydance], we found that partnership,” producer Rob Kostich, head of the video game company Activision, which makes Call of Duty, said, per The Hollywood Reporter. “We want to make sure that the authenticity of it is captured on a human level so that it feels real and infuse that with epic scope.”
