Will Any of the ‘1923’ Cast Be a Part of ‘1944’? Here’s Everything That We Know
The '1923' cast is eager to return for the next 'Yellowstone' prequel—here's what they've said
Ever since Paramount+ announced the brand new Yellowstone prequel 1944, fans have been wondering if any of the 1923 cast would appear in it. And while we don’t have any official casting news, several stars—including Harrison Ford—have said that they would love to make an appearance if given the chance. Below, we share everything we know about the show and these potential guest appearances.
What is ‘1944?’
1944 was announced in 2023 and while there is no plot information available, it’s expected to follow a brand new generation of Duttons while they work on the iconic Dutton Yellowstone Ranch. Based on the show’s title, it’s also assumed that events like The D-Day invasion of Normandy during WWII, the Battle of the Bulge or Anne Frank being sent to a concentration camp will be mentioned or potentially even shown.
“Within five years, we grew Yellowstone from a hit U.S. cable show with 5 million viewers into a global hit franchise with over 100 million fans around the world and multiple extensions—and we’re just getting started,” Chris McCarthy, president and CEO of Showtime and MTV Entertainment Studios, said in 2023, per The Hollywood Reporter. “On the heels of 1883 and 1923’s success, our new planned spin-offs, 1944 and 2024 [now called The Madison], will take audiences on a new and unexpected journey with the complex and compelling storytelling that has become a hallmark of the franchise and has helped turn it into a worldwide cultural phenomenon thanks to the creative mastermind of Taylor Sheridan.”
Who’s in the ‘1944’ ‘Yellowstone’ cast

As mentioned above, there is no confirmed 1944 cast, but former Yellowstone prequels stars have said that they would love to appear in the show if given the chance. Ford, for example, said that he loved working on 1923 with Sheridan and would welcome the opportunity if the writer and creator “asks nicely.”
“I’m still alive [in the show],” the Star Wars actor said earlier this month, per The Hollywood Reporter. “[It] was fantastic—I thought it was very tight storytelling and I was absolutely delighted with it. It’s probably the densest script and work that I’ve had a chance to work on in a long, long time.”

One character that did tragically die at the end of 1923 was Alex (Julia Schlaepfer). Even so, the actress said that she’s willing to “be an Alex ghost [in 1944], for sure.”
Speaking of Alex, we would be remiss if we didn’t talk about her spouse Spencer Dutton, who was played by Brandon Sklenar, another actor that would appear in 1944 if they asked.
“Give me some gout, a little hunch and some salt and pepper,” he joked to The Hollywood Reporter in 2025. “I’ll gravel the voice up a bit. If it comes around, I’d love to do it. I really would. I definitely don’t want to say goodbye to Spencer. I love that guy.”
