Classic Bands and Artists That Are Still Touring Today

In the ’60s, ’70s and ’80s, some of the world’s most memorable and talented bands and artists were touring, singing their songs in every state and country and earning their massive fan bases that are still active today. From Fleetwood Mac to The Beatles to Rod Stewart, that era of rock and roll was unmatched. Whether you were a fan in the early days of the groups or you’ve recently discovered music from these artists, it’s always upsetting to learn the bands have broken up or are inactive.

But there are a few iconic groups, band members and solo artists that have had a career resurgence or just never stopped performing. If you missed out on seeing your favorite performers live on their initial run, there are quite a few you can still catch on tour. Find out which singers and musicians you can catch while they’re still on the road.

The Eagles

Throughout the 1970s, the Eagles took the world by storm with their hit songs “Hotel California” and “Take It Easy.” Made up of founding members Glenn Frey, Don Henley, Bernie Leadon, and Randy Meisner and later on Joe Walsh and Don Felder, the Eagles were one of the most successful musical acts in history, thanks to their “California sound.” In fact, the group was responsible for the best-selling album in US history, Their Greatest Hits 1971-1975, which had 40 million copies sold or streamed.

If you missed seeing the Eagles in their prime, you still have a chance to catch the group on their farewell tour, “The Long Goodbye.” What is said to be the end of their 50+ years of touring ran from 2023 until 2026, with their Las Vegas residency still on the horizon. You can see the group perform at the Sphere on September 18-19 or on November 13-14 or 27-28.

Rod Stewart

Rod Stewart rose to fame in the early 1970s with his 1971 album, Every Picture Tells a Story and the hit single, “Maggie May.” Meanwhile, the singer was the frontman of the group Faces, and while he did well as a band member, Stewart was undeniably more popular as a solo artist.

Throughout the decade, Stewart continued to gain popularity with his songs, “Tonight’s the Night (Gonna Be Alright),” “Da Ya Think I’m Sexy?” and his cover of “The First Cut Is the Deepest.” But his success didn’t end there. Stewart seamlessly transitioned his sound to match that of the 1980s and 1990s, achieving the new wave and pop rock sound with “Downtown Train” and “Have I Told You Lately.”

For those who couldn’t see him in concert in the ’70s, ’80s or ’90s, you have time to get tickets now! Stewart is currently on his “One Last Time” tour, though there hasn’t been a mention of retirement. You can catch Rod Stewart at any of his upcoming shows. He is currently headed for Portugal, but beginning July 31, the singer will be stateside at Northwell at Jones Beach in New York, followed by several US dates. See his upcoming tour dates here!

Iron Maiden

The heavy metal band, Iron Maiden, first gained popularity in the 1980s after forming in 1975, thanks to albums like The Number of the Beast (1982). The initial lineup included Steve Harris, Paul Day, Terry Rance, Dave Sullivan and Ron “Rebel” Matthews, though there have been several changes over the years. Iron Maiden became a trailblazer for heavy metal during that golden age and gained momentum again in 1999 after the return of another singer, Bruce Dickinson.

That success has continued to this day and the group is currently on tour, the Run For Your Lives World Tour. While they are currently performing internationally, the band will be in the US beginning on September 5th at the Sports Illustrated Stadium in New Jersey. Guns N’ Roses

In 1987, Guns N’ Roses achieved massive, global fame, thanks to their debut album, Appetite for Destruction. The record featured songs like “Sweet Child O’ Mine” and “Welcome to the Jungle,” earning the hard rock group a major fanbase. Guns N’ Roses snagged their first No. 1 hit with “Sweet Child O’ Mine’ and their success only grew from there.

From 1991 until 1993, the group gained extreme popularity with their double album, Use Your Illusion I and Use Your Illusion II. While the group never officially broke up, some of the original members left the group. But in 2016, Slash, Duff McKagan and Axl Rose reunited and you can still catch one of their shows. The group is currently finishing up the Europe leg of their tour and will be returning to the States in mid-July, starting with a show in Raleigh, North Carolina. Bon Jovi

If you love Bon Jovi, you might want to make note of their upcoming tour dates! The group, which formed in 1983, consisted of members Jon Bon Jovi, Richie Sambora, David Bryan, Alec John Such and Tico Torres. Their success began in 1984 with their self-titled debut, though it was their third album in 1986 that really shot them to superstardom. The record, Slippery When Wet, featured their most popular songs, “You Give Love a Bad Name” and “Livin’ on a Prayer.”

While the group has taken a break from touring, they are returning to the stage for a limited run this summer. You can catch the group at Madison Square Garden in New York City on July 7, 9, 12, 14, 16, 19, 21, 23, and 26 or in the UK or Ireland later in the summer and early September. Stevie Nicks

Although the singer isn’t touring with the iconic members of Fleetwood Mac, you can still catch Stevie Nicks performing soon! As one of the lead singers of the group and her successful solo career, Stevie Nicks is a name recognized globally. She first achieved massive success when joining Fleetwood Mac in 1975. She was featured on some of the group’s biggest songs, including “Dreams” and “Rhiannon” and she only rose from there.

When Rumours was released, Nicks and the other band members became one of the most successful groups of all time and the album one of the best-selling albums of all time. Following its release, Nicks embarked on a solo career while also remaining in the band, and released songs like “Edge of Seventeen.”

Nicks has continued to release music and tour since then, both with Fleetwood Mac and as a solo act, though she’s said the group wouldn’t reunite after the passing of former band member Christine McVie. Nicks is still actively on tour as a solo artist and recently completed that run, but you can catch her on August 29 at the Daisy Chain Fields music festival in Irvine, California.

Concert tickets have turned into a contact sport. Bots vacuum up inventory in seconds. Presale codes flood inboxes. One wrong click can drop you out of a queue that took 90 minutes to crawl through. The best way to get concert tickets in 2026 starts with knowing the system before the on-sale clock hits zero.

Federal regulators are paying attention too. In September 2025, the Federal Trade Commission sued Live Nation and Ticketmaster, alleging the companies enabled brokers to hoard tickets and resell them at marked-up prices. For fans who just want a seat at a show, the rules of the game have changed.

How to get presale concert tickets

Presales are where most good seats actually go. The price is usually the same as general sale, but the access window opens earlier and the seat selection is better.

Credit card presales are one of the most underused unlocks. American Express, Citi, Chase and Capital One cardholders often get in before artist or fan club presales open, according to Seat Insiders. Streaming activity matters too. Spotify may flag listeners who follow an artist and send them a presale code for certain shows, according to Ticketmaster.

Venue and promoter newsletters are some of the most reliable presale sources, Seat Insiders notes. And each artist runs presales differently. Some tours skip codes entirely and instead recognize fans who registered through a dedicated signup page before the window closed, according to a Ticketmaster blog post.

Research the specific requirements ahead of time. Many presales require a credit card on file and a verified photo ID inside your account before the queue opens.

Floor seats vs. lower-level seated tickets

Floor tickets sound like the upgrade, but they are not always the right call. The first question to answer is whether the floor is assigned seating or general admission.

GA floor spots operate on a first-come, first-served basis, according to SeatGeek. Those fans camping outside the venue hours before doors? They are angling for a spot at the front barricade.

Lower-level seated sections often hit a better balance. The view of the stage is unobstructed, the crowd is calmer than a packed GA floor, and the price is often lower than floor tickets, according to GotStubs.

A few other factors fans tend to overlook. Sound is usually clearer and more balanced a few sections back, where speakers are designed to project. Floor seating is also flat, not angled like upper sections, so your sightline depends entirely on the height of whoever is standing in front of you.

What to know about bots and scalpers

The scale of automated ticket buying is staggering. In one recent high-profile concert sale, 96% of traffic came from bots, with only 138,000 of 3.3 million requests coming from legitimate fans, according to Queue-it.

Scalpers use software that can buy tickets faster than a human can click. They also exploit presales by joining multiple fan clubs, buying codes on open marketplaces, creating fraudulent accounts to receive promotional emails and stacking multiple credit cards eligible for partner presales.

The FTC’s September 2025 lawsuit aims at that pipeline. According to a press release on the FTC website, “The Federal Trade Commission and seven states sued Live Nation and Ticketmaster for tacitly coordinating with brokers and allowing them to harvest millions of dollars worth of tickets in the primary market. Live Nation and Ticketmaster then sell the illegally harvested tickets at a substantial markup in the secondary market, causing consumers to pay significantly more than the face value of the ticket.”

Whether that case reshapes how tickets get sold remains to be seen. For now, the best defense is preparation. Line up your presale access, verify your account in advance and know which seats you actually want before the queue opens.

‘So Much Love’: Tanya Tucker and Dennis Quaid Share Untold Story of Recording Kris Kristofferson’s Last Song (Exclusive)

There’s a song by country superstar Brad Paisley, “Last Time for Everything,” that reminds us we never know when something good is going to end. It’s a sentiment that hits home for Tanya Tucker and Dennis Quaid, who had no idea when they were creating her new single, “On My Way to Heaven,” that it would be the last recording of the legendary Kris Kristofferson.

“He was having a hard time and I could see that, but you never know. I always don’t want to think about it,” Tanya says when asked if she thought it might be the ailing icon’s last recording session. “The whole goal for me was to have it out when he could be here. That’s the only God thing that didn’t happen. Also, right after that, I wanted to go in and do a six-song EP tribute to Kris because there’s really been none, but I just couldn’t get the wheels going. And I wanted him to be there when I was recording so he’d be the executive producer. There’s a lot of things I want to do and when it don’t happen, it really frustrates me.”

Unfortunately, it was the icon’s last recording. And though it wasn’t released during Kris’s lifetime, Tanya is so happy to be able to share “On My Way to Heaven,” which debuts today (June 19) via Gaither Music Group, with the video premiering Saturday night (June 20) at the world-famous Grand Ole Opry (see below for an exclusive clip!). Dennis and Tanya will perform on the Opry show and introduce the video, which was directed by Johnny Cash’s son, John Carter Cash. The song also features background vocals by Tanya’s friend Brandi Carlile, who co-produced (with Shooter Jennings) Tanya’s Grammy-winning 2019 album While I’m Livin.’

“This has been a passion project for me,” the Country Music Hall of Famer says of “On My Way to Heaven.” “Quaid has been so generous helping me to get this done.”

Inside the emotional final recording session with Kris Kristofferson

“On My Way to Heaven” first appeared on the soundtrack of the 2018 film I Can Only Imagine, as well as 2018’s Out of the Box, an album Dennis recorded with his longtime band the Sharks. He also included it on his acclaimed 2023 album Fallen: A Gospel record for Sinners. “I wrote it with my mom in mind,” Dennis tells WW of his mother, Juanita, who passed away in August 2019 at 92 years old. “I wrote this in the 90’s, right after I got out of what I call ‘cocaine school’ and rehab. I started re-reading the Bible again. It was a song really to let my mother know that I was okay, and it was a reconnection with Jesus as my personal savior. I was really hit by the red words of Jesus in the Bible, what he said, and from out of that came the song.”

Tanya heard “On My Way to Heaven” on the Sharks album and wanted to record it. Needless to say, Dennis was thrilled. “I went, Wow! It’s Tanya Tucker! I’m not going to say no,” Dennis recalls as he flashes that famous grin. “It was great! It was like walking on air and then she calls back 10 minutes later and says, Kris Kristofferson wants to do it as well. Now she’s blowing my mind and I said, ‘Well whatever you want. Go ahead!”

After Tanya heard the song, she called Willie Nelson’s ex-wife Connie to ask if Kris still sang. “She said, ‘Yeah, he does,’ and I said, ‘Well, call him and see if he’ll sing on this song with me.’ That’s what we did and then we went to see Kris. I could just hear Kris on it. I don’t know how I hear these things, but I just do.”

The truth behind Kris Kristofferson’s heartbreaking health battle

In his later years, Kris was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s, but it turned out to be a misdiagnosis. “People think he had Alzheimer’s, but they found out too late that he had Lyme disease,” Dennis shares.

Because of his illness, Tanya took extra care to help him while they were recording. “I stood there with him and with a pencil. I’d point to the word when he’d sing it and he listened to me,” she recalls of the studio session. “Quaid has a story about that when he was walking in and he saw, he said, ‘I’ve never seen so much love in the room.’ Because it was with love. I was trying to show him where to come in and he did it. I’m just so happy he did.”

The three-time Grammy winner died in 2024 at 88 years old. A legendary songwriter, Kris penned such timeless classics as “Me and Bobby McGee,” “Sunday Morning Coming Down,” “Lovin’ Her Was Easier (Than Anything I’ll Ever Do Again),” “Why Me Lord,” “For the Good Times” and “Help Me Make it Through the Night.” A member of the Songwriters Hall of fame, Kris also had an extremely successful career as an actor, starring in such films as A Star is Born, opposite Barbra Streisand, Lone Star, Fire Down Below, the Blade film trilogy alongside Wesley Snipes.

“He was an amazing person. He’d been my hero since I was 17 years old,” Dennis says. “He was a Rhodes Scholar and a helicopter pilot. He wrote the most amazing songs that, I think, will live for 500 years. He started out here in Nashville . . . and he was also, which people don’t seem to remember, he was the biggest box office movie star for three years in a row in the 70’s. This is when you had Jack Nicholson, Al Pacino and Dustin Hoffman and really power heavyweights. He did it all.”

Tanya recalls going to see Kris in concert with Dennis when he was still performing. “We went to see him at that show and we were sitting on the stage just behind the curtain and you could see Kris right there on stage,” she recalls. “Dennis pulls me down on his lap and then he said, ‘I’ve always wanted to be like him. He’s always been my hero.’ I had no idea, so I will just say this is a God thing and it was meant to be. You couldn’t have scheduled it or written it out and done it. It’s totally his direction and it started with a great song.”

They recorded the song in Malibu at Shangri-La recording studio, owned by legendary producer Rick Rubin and also did some recording at the late Johnny Cash’s cabin outside Nashville, as well as a studio in Austin. “Before I left for California, we went to a studio in Austin and then I laid a track down. I laid two of them down because I was trying to figure out what key that Kris sings in,” she explains. “So I would go back and listen to something he did recently or not too far away or not too long ago and see what key he did it in. And so we did two different versions and I had to drop the key. So we recorded the track and then I went out to LA and started working with Brandi and Shooter [Jennings] on the first album While I’m Living. And then I went out to Malibu and got Kris’s vocal. Then, not too long after that, we got John Carter Cash on board. We all met on the highest mountain in Malibu. It was a beautiful day and Kris was there. He’d flown 10 hours to be there. I mean, who does that?”

Tanya says the camaraderie continued into the evening. “We all went to a great restaurant and had dinner on the ocean, and we were singing songs,” she smiles. “Quaid and I were singing with Kris, singing ‘Help Me Make It Through the Night,’ all the songs. I just treasure all those times we’ve had together. And [Kris’s wife] Lisa Kristofferson, she’s just like an angel. I’m pretty sure she’s an angel. I’m pretty sure it wouldn’t have happened without her.”

Tanya also enjoyed working with John Carter Cash, Johnny Cash’s son. “We did a lot of it at the Cash cabin, just spending time with him,” she says. “You don’t see it if you’re far away how much he resembles his dad. He doesn’t look like his dad far away, but you sit close to him and watch his mannerisms, his eyes. Oh, it’s John all the way. John all the way. And he’s just a really wonderful person.”

How Tanya Tucker and Dennis Quaid reconnected after 40 years apart

Working together on the song isn’t the first time Dennis and Tanya had worked together. “Tanya was actually my very first leading lady way back in the late 70’s,” Dennis says. “We did a TV movie called Amateur Night at the Dixie Bar and Grill and she plays this girl who wants to be a singer and comes in saves this bar that my dad owns.”

“It was your second movie, my first movie,” Tanya adds, “and so after 40 years of not seeing each other, then you walked in.”

After decades of not seeing each other, the two reconnected at an event at the Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum. Soon, they had rekindled their friendship and laid the foundation for their collaboration.

Both are excited about premiering the video on stage at The Grand Ole Opry. “It’s another God thing,” she says of getting to share it on the Opry stage before it becomes available on the Gaither Music YouTube channel and other platforms. “The only problem I’m having is the guest list, because I want everybody there. I’m thinking I’m over 150 guests and they may lose money on me, but it’s really wonderful that it’s there.”

Both Tanya and Dennis really enjoyed working together on “On My Way to Heaven” and say another collaboration is likely. “I’ve known a lot of songwriters all my life. That’s all I’ve done is look at songs and he’s a good one,” she says. “He’s amongst one of the best!”

“It’s good to hang around her,” Dennis smiles, “because she doesn’t even know it, but everything she says sounds like a song title.”

Ella Langley has taken the music world by storm, and despite her rapidly rising fame, the 27-year-old “Choosin’ Texas” singer has never shied away from giving credit to those in the industry who have inspired her.

Just a few days ago, the singer took to TikTok where she paid homage to none other than Shania Twain with a stunning cover of her hit song, “Still the One.” The stripped down version of the ballad showcased Ella’s stunning vocals, and her love for the track was reflected in her caption where she wrote “I’ll never get over this song.”

Ella’s cover of “Still the One” earned over 500,000 likes and thousands of comments, but there’s one reaction that perhaps meant the most to the young country star. “So flattered,” wrote Shania Twain in the comments. “Loved getting to connect at ACMs xx.”

Shania Twain hosted this year’s ACM Awards, and considering Ella Langley led the night with seven wins, it doesn’t come as a surprise that these two crossed paths that evening.

A few weeks ago, in conversation with USA Today, Shania gushed about Ella, saying, “I’m very excited about Ella Langley. I don’t center her out as the only thing that’s exciting about country music right now, but she brings me back to the early country that I grew up with and was singing as a child.”

She continued, “I’ve heard a lot of producers, writers and so on say, ‘You know, we don’t want to be too country’ or ‘That’s too country.’ And I’m thinking, What is too country? So Ella Langley, to me, is really country western, and I’ve missed that in the genre.”

Shania sang Ella’s praises on the carpet of the ACM Awards as well while chatting with Billboard. “Ella is really a super talent. She’s a great writer. She’s got a fabulous attitude. I think she’s just really unapologetic about what she writes and says, and so she commands respect. I love that.”

It’s clear that Ella Langley’s talent and authenticity have won over one of country music’s biggest icons—and that’s no small feat. Bonnie Tyler Health Update: Everything You Need To Know About the 75-Year-Old ‘Total Eclipse’ Singer’s Coma Recovery

“Total Eclipse of the Heart” singer Bonnie Tyler is on a slow but steady road to recovery after emergency intestinal surgery in Portugal landed her in an induced coma earlier this year. On June 15, 2026, the 75-year-old Welsh icon’s family confirmed she is “no longer in a coma” but remains in intensive care at a hospital in Faro, where she has a home.

The update offered fans their first real sign of hope after weeks of worry, scrambled tour plans and a flurry of rumors her team has worked hard to shut down. Here’s everything we know about Tyler’s hospitalization, her condition today and what’s next for the beloved rock vocalist.

Bonnie Tyler’s emergency surgery and hospitalization

Tyler’s health scare began in early May 2026, when her team announced she had been rushed into emergency intestinal surgery at a hospital in Faro, Portugal. In a statement posted to her official website on May 6, 2026, her reps said the operation itself went smoothly. “We are very sorry to announce that Bonnie has been admitted to hospital in Faro, Portugal, where she has a home, for emergency intestinal surgery,” the statement read. “The surgery went well and she is now recuperating.”

The message added that her loved ones expected an outpouring of concern: “We know that all of her family, friends and fans will be concerned about this news and will be wishing her well for a full and swift recovery.” Tyler’s representatives have not disclosed the underlying condition that led to the urgent procedure.

Bonnie Tyler health news: From induced coma to slow recovery

The day after the initial announcement, the picture grew more serious. On May 7, manager Matt Davis told Entertainment Weekly that doctors had placed Tyler into a medically induced coma to help her body heal. “Bonnie has been put into an induced coma by her Doctors to aid her recovery. We know that you all wish her well and ask for privacy at this difficult time please,” Davis said. “We will issue a further statement when we are able to.”

A follow-up message on May 12, 2026, described Tyler as “seriously ill but stable,” with doctors still optimistic about a full recovery. That same statement pushed back hard on swirling tabloid speculation, much of which appeared to stem from a Portuguese news outlet. Her family stressed that a man named Liberto Mealha “does not represent them in any way whatsoever” and asked outlets to “cease to speculate or publish wild rumors.”

Then came the June 15, 2026, update fans had been waiting for. “Bonnie is no longer in a coma but remains very unwell and in intensive care in hospital in Portugal,” the post read. “Although her condition is improving, it is a slow process. Her doctors remain confident that she will make a good recovery, but it is going to take time.”

Bonnie Tyler tour updates and canceled shows

Tyler had a packed calendar heading into the summer, with European tour dates booked through the end of May 2026 and several festival appearances planned for the warmer months. Her website also lists shows running from October through December 2026, following a planned September break. The health crisis has forced major changes to that schedule.

In the June 15 statement, Tyler’s team confirmed that every show through the end of August would be canceled or postponed. “At present, we are still hopeful that our shows in the autumn will go ahead,” her family and team shared. “We apologize to all of Bonnie’s fans and to our promoter partners for the disappointment that this will cause, but trust that you will understand and bear with us in these difficult circumstances. We hope to see you next year instead.”

What’s next for Bonnie Tyler’s music career

Even with her tour on pause, Tyler’s creative output has been busy in 2026. She released two new singles earlier this year—one in March and another in April. Her April 2026 track, “One World One Home,” was released alongside the “Homeless” documentary, which began streaming on most major platforms that same month, giving the song a charitable purpose beyond the charts.

The new music continues a remarkably long run for Tyler, who has released 18 studio albums, most recently 2021’s “The Best Is Yet to Come.” Around that release, she made clear she has no plans to slow down anytime soon. “I’m doing all right. “My breathing is music, my breathing is rhythm,” he explains. For everyday stress relief, Kevin recommends a simple exercise: “I breathe in to the top of my breath capacity, and then I just continue breathing in really hard 3-4 quick breaths while holding it, and then I breathe in one more time and hold it. Then breathe out.”

He heard God pressing on his heart: “You are operating, my son, in a very obvious contradiction, and you know it. Kevin also rejects the notion that purpose has an expiration date. “Don’t listen to that lie that you are done, because that’s the world’s lie, not God’s truth,” he says, noting that Scripture often places tremendous value on the wisdom that comes with age.

From uplifting performances and heartfelt speeches to powerful moments of worship, the evening — hosted by Sadie Robertson Huff and Lauren Daigle — brought together some of the biggest names in Christian music, film, and entertainment for a faith-filled night focused on encouragement and finding beauty in ashes.

Fans filled the iconic venue with excitement as artists walked the carpet, shared stories of God’s faithfulness and reminded audiences why Christian music continues to touch so many hearts across generations.

K-LOVE Fan Awards biggest winners

Among the winners, the humble and hilarious Brandon Lake earned both Male Artist of the Year and Artist of the Year honors, which doesn’t come as a surprise considering the wide variety of captivating music he releases and the heart he puts into songwriting and the role-model nature of his character.

The iconic CeCe Winans took home Female Artist of the Year, as she continues dominating charts with her powerful, praise-filled ballads.

MercyMe was named Group of the Year, and emerging artist Emerson Day received the Breakout Single of the Year award.

Additional winners included Sadie Robertson Huff for Podcast of the Year and Anne Wilson for Book Impact. The Sports Impact Award was presented to Coach RAC, recognizing his influence on young athletes and families through sports and digital media.

In the entertainment categories, House of David received Television/Streaming Impact honors, while I Can Only Imagine 2 earned Film Impact of the Year. Music honors also included Song of the Year for Jamie MacDonald and Worship Song of the Year for Phil Wickham.

‘Woman’s World’s’ favorite moments

Some of Woman’s World’s favorite moments of the night were the heartfelt glimpses of humility, kindness and genuine faith shared from the stage. When CeCe Winans won Female Artist of the Year, Brandon Lake quickly rushed over to help her up the stairs to accept her award, creating one of the sweetest moments of the evening.

In her speech, CeCe reflected on how “it’s a privilege to live the life behind the song,” sharing how faithfully God continues to show up in her own life and ministry.

Another unforgettable highlight came when MercyMe accepted Group of the Year. As longtime fans of the beloved band, it was especially moving to see them still thriving more than three decades after forming in 1994, continuing to create worship music that ushers listeners into the presence of the Lord — whether sitting in church pews or simply driving down the road listening to K-LOVE radio.

Lead singer Bart Millard beautifully summed up their heart when he shared, “The only thing we take from this world to heaven is the ability to worship,” adding how honored the band feels to be part of people’s lives through music and worship.

Woman’s World also loved seeing House of David receive the Television/Streaming Impact award, with actor Michael Iskander accepting on behalf of the series. His passionate speech deeply moved the room as he reminded the audience, “David had to fight a lot and the same Holy Spirit in Him is the same one in us.”

The first few rows of the Grand Ole Opry were filled with the nominees. When the performing artists led the crowd in a song, it was incredibly moving to watch our favorite artists’ lead other artists in worship. Their support for their peers was inspiring, and reminded us all how powerful worship is — and that every person in the room has the same goal of uplifting the name of Jesus.

When Paula Abdul stepped onto the red carpet at the 2026 American Music Awards on Monday, May 25, she carried with her four decades of memories—and at the heart of many of them is one woman: Janet Jackson.

The 63-year-old singer, dancer and choreographer told Us Weekly at the event that her gratitude for Jackson and the entire Jackson family runs deeper than fans might realize. It’s a friendship that began before either woman became a household name, and one that has quietly endured through residencies, sold-out world tours and the kind of life changes most of us can only imagine.

“We have crossed paths. We both have had residencies at the same time and have been able to catch up there,” Abdul told Us Weekly. “We’ve caught up in different countries. Yes, I will always have a debt of gratitude for that entire family.”

How it all began

Long before Paula Abdul was the pop goddess behind “Straight Up,” “Forever Your Girl” and “Opposites Attract,” she was a young dancer with big dreams and even bigger odds to overcome. Born three months premature, she battled collapsed lungs, a broken windpipe and hip dysplasia—conditions that would make a professional dance career seem impossible.

“For dancing, you need turn-out hips and turned-in hips,” Abdul told Us. “There’s nothing about what my dreams and what I was inspired by, but I believe—like a kid who believes in Santa Claus—that I could do it.”

That belief carried her from the San Fernando Valley to the sidelines of Los Angeles Lakers games as a cheerleader, and eventually into choreography. It was that work that brought her into Janet Jackson’s orbit in the mid-1980s, just as Jackson was preparing to step out from the long shadow of her famous family and claim her own creative voice.

The timing could not have been more pivotal. Jackson, who had spent her childhood charming audiences on Good Times, Diff’rent Strokes and Fame, was ready to redefine herself. She had appeared on Good Times starting in 1977 at just 11 years old, joined Diff’rent Strokes at 14 and reluctantly took a role on Fame in 1984 at her father’s urging. “My father wanted me to join Fame. I didn’t want to be on Fame,” Jackson once said. “I did it for my father.”

That experience was part of what made her 1986 album Control such a turning point—and what made Abdul’s role in it so meaningful.

The rapper, actress and bona fide icon, now 56, opened the 2026 AMAs Monday night, May 25, at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas with a monologue that felt less like a celebrity speech and more like a victory lap for every woman who’s ever thought her best days are behind her.

‘It feels so good to be back’

“I gotta say, it feels so good to be back here hosting the AMAs after 31 years,” Latifah told the crowd, according to Us Weekly. “You believe that? Some of BTS wasn’t even born, that’s crazy. That Black don’t crack, baby!”

“I love Doechii. I would do anything with Doechii,” Latifah said. “She is dope. She sounds like she’s from my era. She drew from all the great rappers of my era, for sure, and she produces. She can do no wrong in my eyes.”
