TOP STORIES

Soap opera plotlines are as messy as they come, and one of the tropes we see most often is the “evil twin.” Though some of these instances are hard to even fathom, that doesn’t mean we don’t eat them up every time! Here, take a look at a few of the most iconic soap opera evil twins.

Marlena and Hattie—Days of Our Lives

They say imitation is the sincerest form of flattery, and considering Hattie Adams quite literally went through with plastic surgery to closer resemble Marlena Evans, it’s safe to say this is one of the craziest instances of the soap opera evil twin trope. Over the years, Hattie has stirred up a good bit of trouble for Marlena, and the actress who portrays her, Deidre Hall, now gets to do double duty as both her original character and as Hattie. However, that wasn’t always the case—Hall’s real-life twin sister, Andrea Hall, actually originated the role of Hattie!

Ryan and Kevin—General Hospital

Ryan and Kevin of General Hospital are two soap opera twins that are as opposite as they come, with Ryan being a deranged killer and Kevin being a psychiatrist who, despite his brother’s wrongdoings, still attempted to cure him of his ways (though it didn’t work out too well for him). Of course, no evil twin trope would be complete without these two pretending to be the other from time to time.

Adam and Stuart—All My Children

Another twin duo that captured the essence of good and evil, David Canary brought to life both the kind and gentle soul of Stuart as well as his cunning counterpart, Adam. This twosome was as opposite as they come but remains an iconic set of soap twins.

Hope and Princess Gina—Days of Our Lives

The Hope and Princess Gina connection has filled plenty of juicy plotlines over the years, with Princess Gina being both a doppelganger of Hope’s, as well as an alternate personality (thanks to a microchip). There’s been kidnappings, impersonations and more, and it’s safe to say this is one of the most interesting twin dynamics we’ve seen in the soap world.

Anna and Alex—All My Children and General Hospital

This sister duo is about as messy as they come, and at times, it can be hard to keep up! Impersonations, plots to kill one another—you name it, this pair has endured it. These on-screen sisters certainly know how to bring the drama!

Phyllis and Sheila—The Young and the Restless

Another instance of plastic surgery imitation, Sheila was made to look like Phyllis in a plot that was chock full of drama and chaos in true soap fashion. However, it was Lauren’s quick wits that allowed her to realize who the true Phyllis was, and she finally put an end to her antics.
