Whether it’s creating accessible spaces for a child with medical challenges or designing a tranquil retreat for a grieving widow, the show promises to deliver not just homes, but hope.
The Home Edit effect and the hosts’ personal connections
Shearer and Teplin’s journey to hosting Extreme Makeover: Home Edition is a testament to their passion for organization and their meteoric rise in the lifestyle industry. Founded in 2015, The Home Edit revolutionized the way people think about organizing by merging functionality with high-end design.
What started as a small business has grown into a global phenomenon. The Home Edit boasts a collective social media following of over 8.5 million, New York Times bestselling books, an Emmy-nominated Netflix series and a successful product line available across the world.
It’s not just the duo’s home ingenuity that sets them apart from the pack. Shearer and Teplin are routinely open about their own lives—the good and the bad—with Shearer in particular documenting her two-year long fight against breast cancer on both her own Instagram as well as the Home Edit’s widely-followed accounts.
“I really believe this is my final reconstruction surgery, which makes my SEVENTH surgery since being diagnosed with breast cancer,” Shearer updated her followers in mid-November, her most recent message as of publication. “This process has been such a journey from then to now. It began with my double mastectomy, then surgery for necrosis a week later, surgery for my chemo port, two reconstruction surgeries, removal of my ovaries and fallopian tubes, and now to finalize my reconstruction. I’m hoping and praying that this will be it (at least for a long while)!”
Teplin, naturally, has been one of Shearer’s biggest supporters as well as the entire Home Edit team. Together with donations from production company Hello Sunshine, the V Foundation for Cancer Research launched the Clea Shearer Breast Cancer Research Fund, raising both funds and awareness for women everywhere. To this day, The Home Edit—along with Shearer and Teplin—regularly encourage women to get screened early and champion survivors of the cancer that claims so many lives.
