Music City rolled out the “blue” carpet for the cast of House of David at the premiere of Season 2 of the epic drama — where the biblical story of David is reimagined with a high production value and compelling cinematic details.

The show is produced by Wonder Project, a studio in partnership with Amazon MGM Studios, which aims to create faith-based, inspiring content for a global audience.

With Season 1 of House of David having climbed to #1 on Amazon Prime, fans are waiting with expectancy for the rest of the story to unfold.

Woman’s World caught up with many of the beloved cast — Michael Iskander, Ethan Kai and Ayelet Zurer — along with creator, Jon Erwin and producer, Jon Gunn, and other renowned stars like for King + Country and Bethany Joy Lenz as they pulled up to celebrate the upcoming premiere.

What awaits in Season 2 of House of David

For Michael Iskander, who portrays David, he recognizes the extraordinary shifts that take place moving from Season 1 to Season 2. “This whole season is transformative. We go from David, the shepherd boy with the sling to David, the warrior with the sword,” Iskander told Woman’s World on the “blue” carpet at the Season 2 premiere. “A lot of that is the outward work — his physique, his stature, his armor. The costume department did a phenomenal job on making the appearance of David look great. But inwardly, David is also gaining courage and trust in God’s hand, and that puts him in different situations with the king, and that’s what propels the story forward.”

As far as what to expect from Season 2, the cast and directors are in agreement that the drama that unravels will continue to draw viewers in even deeper — even though the Bible already tells the story, there’s still so much that will shock and captivate audiences.

“The Bible has the story really beautifully compacted, but it’s like a beautiful flower. There’s so many layers,” says Ayelet Zurer, who plays Queen Ahinoam, the wife of King Saul. “It’s an onion, so you’re going to get the onion this season — inside of the emotions, the relationships between the characters, the betrayals, the love. It’s going to be intense!”

A world in need of hope

Many of the stars on the carpet recognize the need and craving for faith-based content in the world today. “I think people are hungry for answers, and bringing people into a space where they can consider a topic that might have been difficult for them to talk about or consider in a previous time — especially when faith-based content used to be fluffy,” says actress and singer-songwriter, Bethany Joy Lenz, who walked the blue carpet. “But now, we’re digging into the mud. It’s so raw, real and gritty. People are just hungry for things that attach to the part of them that long for faith and long to be part of a bigger story. Shows like House of David provide people with an answer for the hope that they’ve been longing for.”

Author and podcaster, Dr. Joel Muddamalle, PhD in theology, also chimed in on the topic, “In House of David, when you see David compared to how massive Goliath is, that puts you in that moment to go, ‘Okay, his faith in the Lord must have been so significant.’ But David said, ‘If the Lord is for us, who can be against us.’ I love what that perspective does for our Christian life and our daily walk with the Lord.”

Family first in the House of David

Despite all the gritty, raw details written in the script, the show aims to keep the set full of respect and love for the cast and crew. “It has been an extremely challenging show in all the right ways,” says co-creator, co-writer, and executive producer, Jon Gunn, “It’s been so big and so epic. We do a lot with a lot less than other shows have. But we do it with a ton of love and passion. We pursue discomfort. We inconvenience ourselves to go to difficult places so the show is really authentic. We have an incredible cast that I genuinely love with all my heart, and I think you can tell when you watch the show. It’s a family show. It’s the House of David about a family, and this cast and crew really are our family.”

Wonder Project’s goal for House of David

CEO of Wonder Project, Kelly Merryman Hoogstraten, is hopeful that audiences will find hope with Wonder Project productions. “We had 44 million viewers of Season 1, and we couldn’t have imagined such an unbelievable reception,” says Kelly. “We just recognize that we need more hope than fear, and we want to bring everyone back together and dream about what the future can hold. This is the time, and Wonder is the right place to be finding so many of these restoration stories.”

Where to watch Season 2

Following its breakout as the #1 show on Prime Video in early 2025, this epic series returns with even higher stakes. As Saul’s reign unravels, the nation stands on the edge of chaos. From shepherd to warrior, David rises with victories that spark both devotion and envy. The dawn of the Age of Iron reshapes every battle, while forbidden loves and fractured families set the stage for battle.
