‘Outlander’ Prequel ‘Blood of My Blood’ Trailer Reveals Details—Romance, Time Travel and More Await!
Jamie and Claire’s love story isn’t the only one worth telling—meet the couples at the heart of the prequel!
Can’t get enough of Outlander? Devastated at the thought of the beloved series coming to an end? Save your tears, friends—a prequel is on its way, and we couldn’t be happier. Outlander’s seventh season concluded on January 17, and though there remains one final installment of the iconic Starz romance, knowing that the end is in sight leaves us with an already growing hole in our chest. At this point, there isn’t yet a set date for the series’ final season, but fans can luckily look even further ahead at the next story that will satisfy their historical romance desires. Outlander: Blood of My Blood has been confirmed to air in the summer of 2025, and we’re already living for it. Here, everything we know about the upcoming Outlander prequel.

What will the ‘Outlander’ prequel be about?
Outlander: Blood of My Blood takes us back in time to two distinct periods: WWI era England and 18th century Scotland. Sound familiar? The two stories at the center of this series will be that of Jamie Fraser’s parents, Ellen MacKenzie and Brian Fraser, and Claire’s parents, Julia Moriston and Henry Beauchamp. As if the love story of their two children wasn’t gripping enough, we can only imagine what’s in store for both of these couples.
“We’re thrilled to be telling the stories of these two couples. The origins of their relationships explore universal themes that transcend time,” said showrunner and executive producer Matthew B. Roberts in a statement, “and we’re so excited for fans to discover and fall in love with these characters and their love stories the way they have with Claire and Jamie.” It’s safe to say we’re more than a little bit excited!

Who will star in the ‘Outlander’ prequel?
In the starring roles will be Harriet Slater, playing the part of Jamie’s mother Ellen, with Jamie Roy playing the part of his father, Brian. Hermione Corfield will bring to life the character of Julia, Claire’s mother, with Jeremy Irvine playing her lover and Claire’s father, Henry. Also joining the cast is a long list of supporting actors and actresses, including but certainly not limited to Tony Curran in the role of Jamie’s grandfather, Rory Alexander playing the part of Murtagh Fitzgibbons Fraser, Conor MacNeill as Ned Gowan, Sam Retford playing Dougal MacKenzie, Sally Messham as Mrs. Fitz and countless others.

Being that several of the characters we will see in Outlander: Blood of My Blood are those we had become familiar with in Outlander, watching these younger iterations of them will certainly be a treat, and one we are eagerly looking forward to!

‘Blood of My Blood’ episode titles
A few days ago, the official Outlander Instagram gave fans an exciting glimpse at what’s to come by revealing the titles of each episode of the show. Can you try and put the pieces together to figure out what each one might hold? Episode one will be titled “Providence,” with episode two called “S.W.A.K. (Sealed With a Kiss)”—talk about swoony-worthy! Episode three is titled “School of the Moon,” episode four is called “A Soldier’s Heart” and five is titled “Need Fire.” The sixth episode continues the story, titled “Birthright,” with seven titled “Luceo Non Uro.” Eight is called “A Virtuous Woman,” nine is called “Braemar,” and finally, episode ten is titled “Something Borrowed.” We’re itching with excitement already!

Fans are already beaming, with many sharing the love in the comments! “The episode titles just add to the anticipation! So excited for Blood of My Blood!,” wrote one user. “I can’t be the only one who believes Claire’s parents actually went back in time and didn’t die in a car accident. One of these episodes has to be about that! It would be even better if they met Jamie’s parents,” speculated another fan, and as the new trailer revealed, it seemed as though this theory wasn’t too far off!
‘Blood of My Blood’ trailer reveals time travel plays a part in Claire’s history
In Outlander, Claire’s story truly begins when she accidentally time travels to the year 1743, and it’s there where she meets Jamie Fraser, beginning a love story for the ages. However, an all-new trailer that just released indicated that Blood of My Blood will tell a similar story, as her parents, Henry and Julia, possessed the same ability to jump through time. It was established in Outlander that Claire’s parents were killed in a car accident, but the bits and pieces that were revealed in this teaser video tell a different story.
As the trailer begins, we get glimpses into Henry and Julia’s romance, and even a moment in which they’re holding a baby Claire lovingly in their arms. “I don’t know how I got here. Perhaps I’ve lost my mind,” Julia states in the trailer. “There was a deafening sound. Then you were gone,” she narrates as we watch the couple get into a car crash. In the next clip, we see her character wake up on the ground, only she isn’t at the scene of the crash—she’s at the same stones in which her daughter, Claire, would disappear from years later, but it’s the year 1743. That’s right, folks! Claire’s mother was a time traveler as well—and we literally have chills.
As the trailer progresses, we see other aspects of the story unfold that we can’t contain our excitement over. On one hand, we see Claire’s father, Henry, set out to find the love of his life after her mysterious disappearance, while back in 1743, the scene is set for the love story of Jamie’s parents. And if that wasn’t enough to pull you in, not only is Julia back in 1743, but she’s back in 1743 with Jamie’s parents! This unexpected crossover already has us in our feels!
When will the ‘Outlander’ prequel premiere?
Blood of My Blood is set to premiere on Starz on August 8, 2025. New episodes will air on Fridays.
Will any of the ‘Outlander’ original cast be in the show?

Considering Blood of My Blood is a prequel series, it isn’t likely that we’ll see any of the original Outlander cast in this new adaptation. However, Sam Heughan still left us with a little bit of hope. “All I can tell you is I’m not in it, as Jamie’s not in it! I believe that it’s a prequel focusing on Jamie’s parents when they were younger, so I guess you might see a young version of him at some point,” the actor told Esquire. “But I think I may be a little too old to play young Jamie now! I could play his dad maybe, or a flash forward? It is time travel, after all.”
Here’s to hoping!
