All About ‘Landman’—A New Series From the Creator of ‘Yellowstone’ Starring Billy Bob Thornton and Jon Hamm
This new series places viewers in the middle of the Texas oil business
With the number of projects Yellowstone creator Taylor Sheridan has going on at a given time, we have to wonder if the man ever sleeps. Aside from Yellowstone, he’s the person we have to thank for series like 1883, 1923, Special Ops: Lioness, Tulsa King and more—and his latest endeavor with Paramount looks to be just as gripping as the rest of the shows that line his resume. On November 17, the debut season of his latest series, Landman, will premiere on Paramount+. Read all about it here.
What is ‘Landman’ about?
Landman places viewers smack dab in the center of the west Texas oil industry and all of the conflict, crisis and chaos that takes place around it. The series centers around the always-booming business and all of those hoping to profit from it.
“The oil and gas industry makes three billion dollars a day in pure profit,” says Billy Bob Thornton as the show’s lead in the trailer. “And it’s only getting bigger. But before any of that money is made, you’ve got to secure the land, then manage the people. That’s my job. First part’s pretty simple. It’s the second part that can get you killed.”
We’re intrigued!
The A-list ‘Landman’ cast
As you may have picked up from Billy Bob Thornton in the trailer, Landman has a star-studded cast. The series is led by the Monster’s Ball actor, playing crisis executive Tommy Norris, who works for an oil company—a part that was written specifically with him in mind. “I went to the [1883] premiere in Las Vegas, and after that we had a dinner and Taylor [Sheridan] sat next to me and he said, ‘Listen, I’ve got a thing I’m going to write around you. It’s called Landman, it takes place in the oil business, and I’m going to write it in your voice because I think I’ve known you long enough now to write in your voice,’” Thornton recalled to The Hollywood Reporter, as the actor appeared in an episode of 1883. “And when I read the first script I was like, ‘Wow, you did, didn’t you?’ Because I read it and was like, ‘Yeah, that’s kind of me if I were a landman.’ So, it was pretty awesome.”
Thornton isn’t the only famous face bringing this show to life. Mad Men’s Jon Hamm also takes on a lead role in this series, as well as Demi Moore, who plays the part of his wife, while Ali Larter plays the part of Tommy Norris’ wife Angela. Meanwhile, Jacob Lofland plays Cooper, Tommy and Angela’s son, and Michelle Randolph plays their daughter. Plus there are many more faces we’re excited to see.
