Here, read all about this stuffed pierogi toy, the heartwarming story about who makes it and how you can get your hands on one. Plus, we’ve picked out a few affordable dupes that scratch the itch if you can’t snag the real thing!

Team Poland’s plush pierogi is going viral

If you know anything about Polish cuisine, then you know that pierogies are an absolute staple. These tasty little pockets are similar to a dumpling, consisting of a dough stuffed with either savory or sweet fillings. Rich potato and cheese, well-seasoned meat or sweet fruit make these bites beloved, but at this year’s Olympics, a plush version of this mealtime favorite has stolen hearts!

During a figure skating team event, a plush pierogi was seen sitting beside Team Poland, and it didn’t take long for this adorable little guy to make headlines as viewers were curious where they could grab one for themselves. Soon enough, folks were taking to social media, sharing the love for this adorable mascot.

More food mascots at the Olympics, please!,” wrote one fan on Reddit. “Whoever made that plush…make a million more!,” urged another fan.

The story behind the plush pierogi

Though it might seem like this viral pierogi plushie is nothing more than a cute and fluffy addition to your collection, the story behind them makes them even more special. According to NBC Olympics, the plush pierogies are made by hand by a shop called Luft located in Katowice, Poland. Luft actually runs classes for folks with disabilities where they teach individuals how to make these now viral pierogi plushies, but it didn’t take long for their site to sell out after the demand increased.

Where you can find dupes

With the original Polish pierogi plushies sold out, it could be a little while before more get made—but that doesn’t mean you can’t get your hands on a similar version that’s just as cute. At Walmart, you can purchase a Pierogi Plush that resembles the original for just $22.99. Walmart also sells a Cartoon Dumpling Plush Pillow for $12 that’s just as adorable. Etsy also has tons of handmade options to choose from! Grab a Dumpling Plush Pillow for $30 or a Pierogi Cat Toy for $8.

Whether you manage to snag an original handmade pierogi plush from Poland or choose one of these delightful alternatives, you’re bringing home more than just a cute toy—you’re celebrating the joy, creativity and heartwarming stories that make the Olympics so special. After all, it’s these little moments of happiness that remind us why we love cheering on athletes from around the world. Happy plushie hunting!
