A litter of pitbull puppies at an animal rescue in the Hamptons is winning hearts online — and their names might sound familiar to fans of one of television’s hottest new shows.
The Animal Rescue Fund of the Hamptons, Inc. shared an Instagram post on March 20 introducing the adorable litter, with each puppy named after a character from “The Pitt,” the HBO Max medical drama. The puppies go by Dr. Robby, Dr. McKay, Nurse Jesse, Dr. Santos, Dr. Whitaker, Nurse Donahue, Nurse Dana, Dr. Langdon and Dr. Abbot.
To complete the theme, all of the puppies were posed for photos, and AI-generated images placed them in doctor and nurse garb — a playful nod to the show’s emergency room setting.
A rescue story with heart
Behind the cute costumes and clever names is a story of resilience. The puppies were born to stray parents and found living in the dirt before making the journey from Georgia to the Hamptons with the help of the rescue’s partner organization, X-Port Paws.
The rescue center’s Instagram caption leaned fully into the theme: “Code cute! Paging all puppy lovers. The ER just got a lot fuzzier. Meet ‘The Pitt’ litter, a team of tiny doctors and nurses ready to heal your heart, infect your home with zoomies and laughter, and diagnose an incurable case of puppy love. Born to stray parents and found living in the dirt, this resilient crew made its way to ARF from Georgia with the help of our rescue partner, X-Port Paws. Now these little doctors are ready to begin their next chapter with loving families. Learn more about each pup and apply to adopt at arfhamptons.org 💚”
The post quickly drew attention from fans of the show, who were delighted by the attention to detail.
“Ok whoever named these pups must be as obsessed with the Pitt as I am because the dogs are a perfect match for their names! Dr Robby even has a beard!! Well done!” one commenter wrote.
Another added: “Each of them have a PhD in cuteness!”
About ‘The Pitt’
For those unfamiliar, The Pitt is an HBO Max series that began in 2025 and has become a hit with both fans and critics. The show has two seasons and has been renewed for a third.
Each episode covers one hour of a shift in the emergency room of the Pittsburgh Trauma Medical Center, called the “Pitt” by its staff. The format gives the show a grounded, real-time intensity that has resonated with audiences.
The cast is led by Noah Wyle as Dr. Michael “Robby” Robinavitch. Wyle, who previously starred in ER, also serves as an executive producer and a writer on the series. The cast also includes Katherine LaNasa as Dana Evans, Taylor Dearden as Dr. Melissa “Mel” King, Patrick Ball as Dr. Frank Langdon, Fiona Dourif as Dr. Cassie McKay and many more.
In an interview with AV Club, Wyle spoke about the show’s unique structure: “What can you do in 15 hours? Is that enough time to fall in love or out of love? Is that enough time to find faith or lose faith? Is it enough time to find your life’s calling or recognize that you’re a fish out of water? That was the canvas that we got to play with. But ultimately, you can’t do days’ worth of relationships in one 15-hour shift. Everything has to be somewhat grounded to the plausible if not the probable.”
